For well over a year, we've been collecting testimonies about how the IDF has been fighting in Gaza. Not long after the first round of soldiers left the battlefield, we began receiving testimonies about the large gap between what they thought they were being sent out to do, and what they ended up doing in practice. The gap between defense and revenge. Today, we bring you the first of several new testimonies we've documented and verified since October 7th, which we will be publishing here: What’s important to you that the Israeli public know about the Netzarim Corridor? "It’s important to me that people understand the meaning of a “no go zone,” what it means when you blockade an area as a closed military zone and that anyone who enters it is sentenced to death. On the surface it’s a logical[-sounding] sentence, you [might] say: “yes, the army was in control here, [the army] decided, [the army] sent SMSs and sent leaflets so it’s the Gazan’s problem that he entered this thing.” That’s allegedly true, it’s not for real. It's more complex than that. What we created there is like a mousetrap, sort of a human trap. It’s possible that we killed Hamas [operatives] and it’s possible that there were people who entered there who tried to set explosives against us but at the very least [I would like there to be] an understanding of the meaning of this thing: tons of civilians are killed [because] they [were] simply in the wrong place and the numbers don’t reflect that reality. I think people [also] need to understand that because of the operational nature of the place, we’re talking about a permissive area. That you (as a soldier) can walk around free of worry and it's a place that is being held by reservists, this combination is a deadly combination, both on the operational level and on the ethical and moral level.
