Framer markets itself as the easiest way for designers to build a portfolio, and I bought into it. I spent hours designing every page, polishing animations, and building out the experience. Then as my portfolio grew, so did the cost. Keeping a custom domain eventually meant paying around $40/month, and by the start of this year, it just didn't make sense anymore. Last week, I decided to start over. While auditing my old portfolio, I realized I'd added a lot that wasn't actually necessary. So I stripped everything back to what really matters. I design (digital & physical product/experience). I run (2× marathoner). I write (author). That's it. I rebuilt the entire site from scratch, from design to code. The frustrating part was that I couldn't simply move my existing portfolio elsewhere. Framer keeps your work inside its ecosystem. You can't export the codebase or transfer it to another host, which meant walking away from countless hours of work. I manually recreated every case study, section by section. It was slow, repetitive, and honestly painful. But it was worth it. This might not work for everyone, but one of the most unpopular ways to disconnect from someone isn’t by blocking them. It’s by normalizing their presence. Keep them around, but don’t interact much. Maybe view their Instagram story once in a while. Maybe reply to a WhatsApp status occasionally. Maybe exchange a random message every now and then. You’re slowly reprogramming your emotions to see them differently. Until one day everything dawns on you and you’re totally disgusted by their presence. Works like magic. 😂
