The best evidence to address this point comes from Suffolk County. In all years dating back to 2002 (so, long before DTP policy), the paper below shows dismissing nonviolent misdemeanors at/prior to arraignment causes reductions in new criminal complaints: nber.org/papers/w28600

Nasser and I regularly downloaded/analyzed this data while at SCDAO, and provided research partners fresh data upon request, because DA Rollins always wanted to be aware of the latest trends in the data, but it's not clear if the new admin has continued these practices.

You can also download BPD's crime incident dataset here, and run some analysis on it, but this requires a lot more work, and again only offers descriptive trend data, which as stated requires substantial causal guesswork: data.boston.gov/dataset/crime-…

One of the many partnerships the Innovation & Strategy Unit had established was to audit the harms of the Hinton Drug Lab scandal, with researchers from @Kennedy_School. That project, too, has been shuttered.

Suffolk County, where the Hinton Lab is, was where most misconduct took place in the drug lab scandals during this time. @SCDAONews under Rollins understood that one person couldn’t have been solely responsible, and sought to vacate all drug convictions that went through Hinton.
