@TaxpayersUnion First-past-the-post (FPP) is more purely representative of geographic districts or areas than mixed-member proportional (MMP). So prefer FPP where each MP has the majority support of their district.

Expect him to go to prison or a psychiatric ward long term, so he will not be free to harm anyone again. If the court lets him go or to leave early, agree others are encouraged to break the law too.

@Best_Meth @OpinionistNZ Civil societies don’t execute convicted murderers because on occasion the person was later found innocent. Death cannot be reversed. For mentally ill people, they may recover but if not, they are dependent on others for their survival yet need restraining to protect the public.

@SicT686 @OpinionistNZ In terms of society being soft, that would depend on the court judgment. If this is a mentally impaired person that might be dangerous, why was he free in society in the first place and not in psychiatric care? That remains a question in regard preventing similar events.

@SicT686 @OpinionistNZ New Zealand closed most of its mental asylums 1970’s-1990’s, to lower government costs and noting changing attitudes towards such institutions. This may have contributed to a rise in these such events. That said, this man if mental should be restrained in a psychiatric ward.

@redavdarf @OpinionistNZ Islam is a religion, so people that ascribe to it aren’t necessarily mentally ill. A terrorist is also not necessarily mentally ill. They may be a cold killer for something they believe in. Either way both are subject to the laws of NZ and prison time or a psychiatric ward.
