However if they don’t have confidence, and the government makes decisions they don’t like, they absolutely are going to do something because they know, when it comes down to it, they have power by force

Militaries are very political - in major civil conflict the side which wins is the side which the military has confidence in. Coups are only ever successful because the military lets them (e.g. Spain, Romania, Myanmar).

It’s a lot easier to lose confidence in an individual leader than the entire framework of the US government (which is at fault for Afghanistan) It’s 4am for me and I am tired as hell.
