It’s an exciting sport, but could be made better. Just get rid of the offsides penalty totally. I’ve never seen any one rule that ruins a game so much. How many goals were called back in the past few days alone? Getting rid of the offsides would open the game up and lead to more scoring. It would bring changes in strategy. Purists would hate it, would block it, and it would probably never be done, but people said that about the designated hitter in baseball, 3 point shots in basketball. It should be tried for a while to see if it improves the game. I think it would. (But, then again, I’m just a stupid American who has no right to an opinion.)

Human activities generate roughly 4% of all CO2 emissions. The vast majority is caused by decomposing carbon based organisms (animals, and plants) on land and sea. Do human activities impact the climate? Sure, but to what degree (pun intended)? There are certainly actions that could mitigate: Switching from call to petroleum reduces emissions by 1/3. Switching from petroleum to natural gas by another 1/3. Switching from coal to natural gas would reduce emissions by half. Switching to nuclear would essentially eliminate virtually all greenhouse gas emissions. Not using air-conditioning has a fraction of a fraction of a fraction impact, yet people are dying of heat stroke because of this idiotic policy. The largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions is coming from China, which accounts for roughly 30% of global totals. The Chinese have already said that economic development is more important than controlling emissions, hence they continue to build coal fired power plants at a rapid rate. The US contributes about 14% of global emissions and has remained at that level for several years. India, which is rapidly industrializing is also rapidly expanding its emissions and should overtake the US in the next few years.

Nonsense. The US has kept its global greenhouse emissions share essentially flat the last several years at roughly 14%. On the other hand, China contributes twice that amount, has publicly stated that economic growth is more important, and continues to expand its coal fired power generation capability. Indian emissions are also rapidly rising. The dim bulbs running European governments chose to shut down both your coal and nuclear capabilities at the same time and to depend solely on wind and solar, which are unreliable. Oh yes, and Putin‘s oil! Brilliant move! If Europe chooses to self-flagellate at the altar of Environmental Exremism, that’s your choice, but blaming it on American air conditioning just turns our sympathy to disgust. Most Americans are descended from European ancestors and the vast majority of us have very warm feelings toward the European people and certainly the values that we have more or less shared for centuries. That’s why it pains us to see Europe falling, apart economically and culturally.

You nailed it. It’s the European mindset: rigid, bureaucratic. It’s why the brightest, most ambitious Europeans left in the 17th and 18th centuries to find a better life. SOCCER would be much more exciting with more scoring, and there are many rule tweaks that would enable that (hint: get rid of the offsides penalty completely).
