@rafaelshimunov @ricfouad Assume it's on the lower end. That's still almost six times the 5.5% that 1 of 18 seats would represent. I don't think Mamdani did this on purpose because I don't think he's a bigot, but the odds make it so I understand why others are suspicious.

@i_am_AnishaM @Joelmpetlin It's not hard to figure out--it is a popular profession among Jewish Americans, much like medicine among Indian-Americans. Put another way, a greater percentage of Jews go into law than the population as a whole, thus guaranteeing what you term "over representation."

I don't share it, because I neither believe the Mayor thinks that way nor have insight into the selection criteria

@GramsciGordon @DGreenbaum @jacobkornbluh Indeed not. I just find it offensive to justice (not antisemitic) to exclude a lawyer based on his client(s). The right to effective counsel is there to protect the least sympathetic defendants, not the most.

It's just hard to make the math plausible if you know the NYC legal market. I don't think Mamdani deliberately excluded Jews, I just understand why the odds make others think he did

Both Maxwell and Ahmed al-Darbi, however contemptible they are, are entitled to the best defense they can mount, and suggestions to the contrary are grossly offensive to justice.

@PatrickRuffini Probably not--steakhouses offer vegetarian entrees. I've also been to fundraisers at the old Charlie Palmer that had a pre-set menu that did not include steak. Also, I'm guessing they're using Lucille's as a proxy for the old Bistro Bis, since Lucille's hasn't opened yet.
