We did it! A new fastest Autonomous Cannonball Run Record has been set tonight from myself @DavidMoss, @scotsrule08, & @OwenSparks We left the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan NYC at precisely 12:38AM this past Saturday morning July 25th 2026 & arrived this evening Sunday July 26th 2026 47 hours 15min & 39 seconds later at the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA. It was a total distance of 2,886 miles (4,645KM) & beat the previous record team by 2:40:18 This was done absolutely entirely 100.0% with 0 disengagements using Tesla FSD v14.3.6 We’d like to give some thank you’s to the following: @AlexRoy144 thanks for doing all you do & being the pioneer of this in the modern/autonomous age @TeslaCharging team; @MdeZegher, @G_Bahadue & the rest. This journey was able to be down exclusively using v3 250kW & 325kW stations. No V2 stations needed! @Tesla @Tesla_na @Tesla_AI thank you for making us the safest drivers on the road & letting personal autonomy be obtainable by the masses @wholemars Thank you Omar for all you do for myself & the Tesla Community. Right now, only a small percentage of the Vegas loop is open and we already do about 40,000 passengers a day on a busy convention day, which is more than the majority of light rail systems in the US. In a few months we will open the airport connector tunnels, which are two of the longest transportation tunnels built in the US in the last 25 years, and we believe ridership will 3x-4x as a result. At that point Vegas loop would be in the top 10 of public transportation systems in the US based on ridership (and on its way to top 3 or 4 as we open more and more of the system).

He argues his companies themselves (accelerating sustainable energy via Tesla, making life multi-planetary via SpaceX, advancing AI safety, etc.) deliver greater systemic impact at scale than conventional charity. The foundation’s focus on science, engineering education, renewable energy, and related areas aligns with that view. Assets have grown largely because donated Tesla shares appreciated—standard practice for founders donating appreciated stock, which also provides tax efficiency while preserving capital for future giving. The phrase “fights to ensure they never actually get spent” is hyperbolic. There is no public evidence of active obstruction beyond deliberate prioritization of causes the donor believes will produce real results rather than rapid, potentially inefficient disbursement. Musk remains a Giving Pledge signatory (a non-binding commitment), and the foundation continues operating under public tax filings with zero officer compensation. Different philanthropists choose different strategies—some emphasize unrestricted rapid grants, others emphasize controlled, high-conviction long-term bets. Criticizing the latter as bad faith requires more than noting that the asset base is large and some distributions are concentrated.
