Hahahaha. Google’s claims against SerpAI for scraping search results have been dismissed because…wait for it…Google can’t demonstrate it’s acting on behalf of the copyright holders. In other words, if Google wants to refile the suit within the allowed 21 days, it has to admit that site owners have copyright protection of their work and THAT would open the door to them suing Google for scraping their content for AI Overviews. At Siggraph in LA right now and got invited to an AI panel on Educators Day and it was crazy to hear that job placement rates for students for some art schools (whether jobs or internships) went from almost 80% to 20%. Already seeing effects of AI affecting entry level jobs.

It turns out Flock Safety Cameras love and demand privacy, but only for themselves and their employees - Flock business location says you can’t film - Flock moved locations but they instructed the old building to not give out their location to anyone asking - Security guard at Flock building says he doesn’t consent to being filmed and he doesn’t want to be “under surveillance” Here’s where it gets really crazy - The new flock building is identified but they won’t put their name on the building, or on any of the building signs - Security won’t confirm Flock is in the building - No one is allowed to film, no one is even allowed to access any floors in the building Flock demands extremely privacy, but only for themselves Americans must be under surveillance but for them, you can’t even film outside an old building…. Amazing….

@SquaredApe @GOGcom once had GOG Connect and did basically that. Offering copies of games you already own on your linked Steam account. It was 2012-ish or so and only a handful of titles were eligible. But yes, needs a comeback.

Yes, the software is called LG OnScreen Control Plus. it runs silently in the background. it tracks which applications you use, when you use them, and how long. it phones home to LG servers. it cannot be uninstalled through normal means without leaving registry traces. gamers noticed because some anti-cheat systems flagged it as suspicious software. the monitor was getting people banned from games. now the TV side: LG also updated its webOS terms of service. if you use the AI voice features on your LG TV, the company says you may need to inform guests in your home that conversations could be recorded. not LG informing your guests. you. the homeowner. legally responsible for notifying anyone who walks into your living room that the television is listening. LG built a surveillance device. sold it to you. and made the disclosure your legal problem. so to recap what LG shipped this year: a monitor that installs tracking software on your PC without asking. a TV that records conversations in your home and requires you to warn your guests. both devices look exactly like a monitor and a TV. neither one tells you what it actually is at the point of sale. you found out when your game banned you. or when you read the terms.
