In my 25+ years advocating for better treatment of farm animals, I’ve never seen so many thought leaders and elected officials from both right and left unite to defeat an anti-animal bill. Some things are bigger than political tribalism, and basic decency toward animals is one of them. Here's a small sample of those speaking out against including SOB in the farm bill. 🧵

There's also a cost to not acknowledging that some will lose their jobs and that even more will see real wages continue to compress. There's major information asymmetry between people who understand what's happening and those who don't. The first group is living their best life. The second group, which is the majority of Americans, may not even realize they're at risk of losing their jobs. Early 2000s factory workers were told offshoring would lift all boats and free them to focus on higher value work. Years were wasted with people trying to get their old jobs and former wages back. The future with AI is really bright, especially if we are honest with people about what's changing and can make the transition less jarring.

there are many definitions of "formal" - there's correctness, but also correct specs can result in deadlocks (i.e. you local spec doesn't model check well) and then other tasks have their own definitions of formal - cryptographic protocols want some guarantees on the lifecycles of secrets and key materials but also want formal guarantees on the underlying cryptography (a lean proof doesn't mean the implementation in C or Rust is correct). we atm use different tools for all these (and they are very different concepts). my guess is the languages don't change much underneath but humans move to TLA+, Lean etc. (assuming they care to know what is even going on underneath).

In sum: The administration presides over the killing of Renee Good as she tries to drive away--as video shows--then refuses to allow her immediate medical care as she is dying and finally lies about all this, defaming her as a "deranged leftist" who attacked someone. Putinesque.
