The latest most-capable AI models can now run for weeks or months to work on extremely difficult tasks. This means it takes the same time to perform in-lab tests to check if they don't spit out dangerous stuff (bio weapons, etc.). But Frontier Labs did not give themselves this testing time anymore in the past few months in an effort to outpace the competition. It seems to me that the US government has implemented a sane pace reducer.
It's odd to witness EU media treat this heatwave as a one-time anomaly ("we're almost through, one more day"). Incredibly shortsighted and frankly just dumb. Nothing prevents N more heatwaves this same summer, nothing prevents them from lasting weeks, nothing prevents the intervals becoming shorter.
