@thewholeboy -for the edges i made sure the shingles were the original size so by adding an edge cut across to them at the start you could delete the overlapping outer faces to avoid gross baking. in the end this came to 18,000 polys but the depth you get is incomparable to just a texture

@thewholeboy im not sure how different the process'll be in 3ds max but what i did for mine was start with a single shingle, array a couple of rows up and across and using the few tweak for some variation, then duplicate those again.-

@halfbakedhex8 yeah! so you basically parent the siderods and all the other bits to the wheel bone so it's a complete hierarchy, and when you rotate it the whole thing moves

@halfbakedhex8 this is how i did mine, in the expression bit you divide the variable distance by the circumference of the wheels which allows it to rotate at the correct speed

@halfbakedhex8 in blender you'd have to use driver expressions which is basically 'if wheels are transforming in x direction, rotate wheels'
