The ‘early sowing’ NvTs aren’t sown early enough, often result with Mid varieties ‘winning’. I feel confident I know which Mid-shorts to put in. I’m not confident about what wheat to sow 10th April

I can still remember as a kid, driving cautiously around a 1.5m deep washout in the middle of a 40ha bare earth wodjil sand which would struggle to grow anything here.

@JSeimes There’s plenty of trials in Western Australia showing the same positive effect. We have pretty good access to gravel, and even then it’s perhaps not economic yet. It’s about interrupting the evaporation concentration of salt at the surface. Spreading straw might be cheaper

@agrobaz @Ashley_Jacobs92 45g/ha usually but have gone a lot higher. I presume it’s environmental conditions. Sandier soils etc. we certainly see less damage on the heavier parts of our paddock or when it’s wetter

@lingy_smith @cosfarming Yeah considered it for sure. Went against fallow as I’m chasing sunk cost of already applied lots of nitrogen. Chose against cereal because mice affected paddocks adjacent to other paddocks of canola.
