In 1957, a chicken raised for meat reached 0.9 kg in 56 days. By 2005, that number had jumped to 4.2 kg: same timeframe, nearly five times the weight. 🐓 A chicken's body was never meant to grow this fast. Selective breeding for rapid weight gain leaves birds struggling to walk, breathe, and survive long enough to reach slaughter. The science is clear. The suffering is real. In Europe, companion animals are still largely absent from evacuation planning. Shelter access for pets is inconsistent. Coordination between authorities and animal welfare actors is fragmented. 44% of people who refused to evacuate during Hurricane Katrina did so because they couldn't bring their pets. Abandoned, injured, and left among the trash, a small senior dachshund with soulful eyes and a fragile body was found near the home of Luz María Alvarado, a Humane World for Animals collaborator and independent rescuer in Aguascalientes. Years of neglect had taken a heavy toll on the pup’s tiny frame. María stepped in, determined to give her a chance at a loving life. A compassionate mother and son, close to María, opened their hearts and their home to her. They named her Génova and committed to caring for her forever. But her road to recovery was only just beginning. Because of her age, history of abuse, and breed-related health issues, Génova urgently needed medical care. At one of our mobile veterinary clinics, Dr. Tania Cardozo quickly recognized the seriousness of her condition and requested her transfer to a partner clinic for further diagnostics. Génova underwent emergency surgery and began a comprehensive treatment plan to restore her health and comfort. Génova’s story is a powerful reminder that every act of kindness matters. Through the combined efforts of rescuers, veterinarians, and responsible guardians, her future is now filled with hope. #HumaneWorld

Summer heat can turn life-threatening for dogs and cats faster than most people realise. The inside of a parked car can turn deadly for your pet in minutes, even on a mild day. But the risks don't stop there. Hot asphalt burns paws, midday walks can trigger heatstroke, and high humidity makes it nearly impossible for dogs to cool down through panting. ☀️ The good news?
