I don’t usually put mouth in online matters, but this particular issue involving Femi Adebayo’s wife is deeply sad. One hard truth life keeps teaching us is this: words are irreversible. Once they leave your mouth, they can’t be unsaid, no matter how sincere the apology later becomes. Anger happens. Pain happens. Feeling betrayed, unheard, or overwhelmed happens. But when emotions are high, wisdom must be higher. There are reasons professional marriage counsellors exist. Not every pain deserves a public audience, and not every grievance should be poured into the ears of a third party who cannot carry it responsibly. Some things, once said, permanently alter the emotional safety of a marriage. You may forgive, but you can’t unknow what you now know. You may reconcile, but the innocence is gone. Marriage is not sustained by love alone; it survives on restraint, discretion, and forgiveness. You will hurt your spouse. Your spouse will hurt you. That is unavoidable. What determines whether the marriage lives or dies is how those hurts are handled. When you’re angry, don’t let hatred borrow your tongue. Don’t say things just to wound. Don’t speak from a place you can’t return from. Sometimes, silence is not weakness—it’s protection. Sometimes, walking into a counsellor’s office is wiser than opening your mouth in the heat of pain. Women especially, we must learn this: if you desire peace in your marriage, you must also desire discipline over your words. Forgiveness keeps marriages standing, but wisdom keeps them whole. PS: If Allah wills that they come back stronger, it will happen. Nothing overrides His decree. But let this be a lesson to us all: speaking about your marriage to a third party rarely ends well.
