🎯 Spot on. We're seeing the rejection of false "best practices" in favor of true simplicity. Use a monorepo as long as you can get away with it. Use a monolith until you're forced into microservices. You can go longer than you think. Use a simple build process until you can't. I'm unashamedly using manually triggered build scripts over here, and it works just fine.

Over-engineering is such a huge problem in our industry. It's kind of incredible how often I look at projects that have so much unnecessary complexity, over-abstraction, etc. that makes it impossible to understand. Simplicity is a feature. Showing how smart you are is not.

"S3 economics" was one of the founding principles of @MaterializeInc: x.com/narayanarjun/s… We don't talk about it much—it's an implementation detail!—but it's part of what makes Materialize fundamentally viable. Cool to see how sharply the whole industry has turned in this direction.

I believe every org uses streaming. Either via a proper stream processor or an ad-hoc amalgamation of microservices. @MaterializeInc makes stream proc an implementation detail in a way I find incredibly fascinating. It gets out of the way and lets you just solve your problem
