@Fudmottin @blind_via it's a bit difficult to find specs for specific gyros, but we had a diagram similar to this one in our navigation systems lecture. to my knowledge, the best gyro ever built was the AIRS in the peacekeeper missile, specced at less than 1.5e-5 deg drift per hour

@Fudmottin @blind_via non-MEMS mechanical gyros have been this accurate since at least the 60s, probably before but I'm too lazy to do research on that rn it's definitely something that had to be taken into account for the Apollo missions

@Fudmottin @blind_via that is really not that difficult - earth's rotation is 15 degrees per hour, even modern high end MEMS sensors can get 1-2 orders of magnitude below that in terms of bias stability.

@peterrhague it's not much further from a launch vehicle perspective, but it's definitely a lot harder from a spacecraft perspective, especially if manned
