BREAKING: Attorney General Merrick Garland brilliantly destroys the “extremely dangerous” MAGA lies about the Donald Trump conviction during a House Judiciary Committee. Republicans were not ready for this… "Certain members of this Committee and the Oversight Committee are seeking contempt as a means of obtaining — for no legitimate purpose — sensitive law enforcement information that could harm the integrity of future investigations," Garland stated during his opening statements. “This effort is only the most recent in a long line of attacks on the Justice Department's work,” he added. The hearing was designed by Republicans to smear Garland and the Justice Department. MAGA Congressman Matt Gaetz attempted to push a false narrative that President Biden was behind New York states’s prosecution of Trump. Garland would have none of it. "The case in New York is brought by the Manhattan district attorney independently on his own volition, as [his] own determination of what was, what he believed was a violation of state law," Garland explained to Gaetz. The attorney general also slammed the "baseless and extremely dangerous falsehoods” that are “being spread about the FBI's law enforcement operations.” Democratic Congressman Jerry Nadler asked Garland to describe the effect on the Justice Department when Trump and Republicans falsely and absurdly claim that Biden tried to assassinate Trump by authorizing the FBI to use deadly force during their Mar-a-Lago raid. "This is dangerous. It raises the threats of violence against prosecutors and career agents," said Garland. "The allegation is false, as the FBI has explained, the document that's being discussed is our standard use of force protocol, which is a limitation on the use of force, and which is routinely part of the package for search warrants, and was part of the package for the search of President Biden's home as well." During the hearing Garland also spoke more broadly about the constant attacks on the Justice Department. "Attacks on the rule of law tear down those confidences in the basic, fundamental element of our democracy that all people will be treated equal," Garland said. “And I intend to continue to protect the rule of law, to protect the … career employees of my department to make sure they can continue to go about their job, which is to do the right thing every day and not to be distracted by outside influences, political, or otherwise," he added. I bring this up because here we are now, with your guy indicted and convicted of a real crime, but you swear up and down he's innocent, that he's been wrongly accused. But this was a LONG process. It had an investigation. There was a grand jury. It had documents and witnesses. Opening and closing statements. It wasn't just ONE guy accusing trump of some bullshit. It was an enormous mountain of evidence against him. He's the one who had the affair with a porn star. He's the one who signed those incriminating checks. He's the one who tried to hide it from the voters. If he didn't do all that stuff, there wouldn't have been a case. And THAT is what you dispute. You were cool with trump casually making a major accusation against the sitting President of the United States, but you find fault with the due process of the law playing out the way it should. BTW, trump didn't have to testify, and Obama didn't have to produce his birth certificate. But he did. trump chose NOT to testify. That's dumb. Remember how cool you were with trump saying "lock her up" about Hillary Clinton? Under challenging economic conditions, the public woke up today to a new Tollgate Tariff agreed to by their elected representatives of both the ruling Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) and the main opposition All People's Congress (APC). There has been lots of advocacy against an increase by some CSOs and even the Petroleum Transporters have raised concerns about how this increase will affect their operations but these people don't care. The public is always under pressure to fund their lifestyle and they will protect anyone who makes them happy. Until another election cycle and campaign, they don't want to hear anything, the people they represent don't matter anymore. The Members of Parliament of the main opposition APC are now seated comfortably, serving committees and flying around. Dem nor dae even ask for backlog again. Until we realize as a people that our political class is more interested in how much they have access to state resources and what they make than seeking the interest of the public, we will continue to be in the same situation. Dem nor lek Salone Ooo, they love what they get from the country and don't care who pays for it. The country is ranked 140 out of 143 countries in the 2024 report based on life evaluation as the most stable measure of the quality of people's lives. Sierra Leone was the third unhappiest country in the world in 2023, ranking 135th out of 137 countries ahead of Lebanon and Afghanistan, who are still at the bottom of this year's ranking. I spoke to Sinneh Kamara, the Head of the Burial Team at the Connaught Hospital Mortuary, who told me that the 32 people who were buried in a mass grave yesterday have been at the Mortuary for over a month and no one could identify them. He said some were picked up on the street while some were admitted at Connaught, Lakka, and other hospitals where they died and were taken to the Mortuary. He couldn't confirm medical or autopsy records but was sure that they were drug addicts who had wounds on their feet and other signs people usually use to identify those who are addicted to Kush. Now, in our conversation, Sinneh was very clear that the death rate is alarming and they've been burying young people who are dying from drug abuse almost daily and our focus should be to call on the government to take action. I agree with Sinneh that it's alarming but there should be some procedure and processes before burial, some medical records, and at least an announcement for people to be able to go to the Mortuary for identification purposes and a dignified way to bury those who couldn't be identified, that's how decent we could be to these victims. Yes, they are victims of a system that couldn't protect them, a system that has failed to address the real issue of how chemicals for Kush are imported into the country and manufactured here in our communities. People are getting rich and flaunting it while the lives of young people, some even students and school children, are being destroyed, they don't care about how their actions are impacting society negatively. Their kids live in affluent and most of them are even overseas. A government that cares about its citizens, human capital development, and how its young people are getting access to very cheap drugs would have made an official statement after seeing those videos of how 32 young people were wrapped at the Mortuary and thrown at the Kingtom Cemetery. The drug cartel is powerful. They have money and power to get their way and even go after those who are calling them out, but we will stand up and call out @PresidentBio and his government to take the drug abuse situation seriously. Go after those who are enriching themselves out of it, I am told you've been briefed about some of the big names in the country. Take action sir and save our communities. Please put our security intelligence and law enforcement agencies to work. At least going after those who are bringing, producing, and distributing drugs in our country does not require donor funding. We are all affected, our family, relatives, and friends are being wasted. No more roundtable meetings and dialogue. It's time to act and address this once and for all before we watch another undignified mass burial. Eight females and 24 males, 32 of our compatriots buried in a mass grave, not even 6 feet deep in an undignified way. Thrown and steeped upon, I am not sure even criminals who die in prison are buried that way. All this is happening in front of our eyes. We share the videos and report it in the news like it's nothing. Even during the war, some families were able to bury their relatives in some dignified way not like how these young people are treated. We should all take responsibility and demand urgent action from our President and his government. #FreetownStories
