@BelfastBooks Unusual use of the words “in the safe arms” with respect to the UK. Shouldn’t it be something like “under the arms of”, or “under the guns of”, or “being shot by “ the UK? And we couldn’t take the reduction in gdp we’d have to take to become a poor abused UK vassal state again.

@MiddleEastEye At least she’s thinking about the calculation. I think the answer will be quite a large sum - but unsurprisingly a negative one, like Shashi Tharoor’s work. However, given her public utterances so far, I doubt she understands negative numbers. Or much else, actually.

@dleighton91 Another empire trick: destroy a target colony’s legal infrastructure & governance mechanisms - & complain no formal processes have been entered into by disenfranchised locals, they are therefore all terrorists, so formal warfare rules do not apply, and all are legitimate targets

@dleighton91 The troops’ actions in Croke Park are apparently ok if you are following the routine colony-holding practices of empires, where retributive action on civilian populations is ok in response to attacks on colonising paramilitaries. But only in colonies. Otherwise its state murder.

@JonCollett @DubGAAOfficial You’re right. In the 1918 general election, home rule parties won 70% of the vote and 75 of 105 TDs/MPs across the whole island. But that’s also a democratic mandate for home rule, isn’t it? I mean, if 51% is good enough 4 Brexit, surely 70% is good enough for self determination?

@JonCollett @DubGAAOfficial Colonialism is an absolute wrong, wherever it is, but seeing guerrilla warfare as terrorism depends on your point of view - after all, one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. But natives & young soldiers pay the price - and are still dead, whatever the outcome.

@JonCollett @DubGAAOfficial It’s a very colonial view that shooting unarmed civilians is an appropriate response to the death of soldiers engaged in warfare on the local population, but it’s common in every colony, no matter who the colonisers are.
