@krishnanrohit You’re overthinking this. It’s #1. The air in SV at the time was the board was full of a bunch of not-for-profit idealists from whom Sam had hidden his profit seeking motives - and the board would replace him with somebody that wants to save the rainforest or something.

A la Iran being in a weakened state, the scheduled diplomatic negations between Iran & U.S., Netanyahu’s current political strifes, etc.

@Alsadius @aris_ada @paulg No doubt, but it also aligns directly with two spots on that chart. Support for unions has been on the steady decline throughout the 2000’s. Anti-war movements have been without any wind (due in part to the covertness of modern warfare)

@paulg @LifeMathMoney You use slavery to illustrate our ideas aren’t as pure as we imagine them to be. What then do you feel is the “ideal” means of dismantling such an institution? It seems optimistic to espouse that a free exchange of ideas alone would be sufficient (maybe a civil war or 2)

@vwbusguy @NickVidal @awscloud @elastic one of the companies most committed to transparency and community-centric development. i have difficulty not seeing this as a disincentive in the founding of future open-source projects. amz's paltry history in OSS rings far more hollow than @elastic's statement IMO.
