People do not care about giving their intelligence to other companies. Hardy anyone hosts anything of their own now. They do care about a companies ability to be a good partner - every time the model downgrades when you're doing real work because of miss-firing safety triggers you lose trust in that company being a good partner. Every intervention costs them customers. I don't need Dario looking over my shoulder telling me what is ok to do today.
It's not that frontier models are dead; it's that open-source models are surging in interest from corporate America and startups -- because people don't want to give their intelligence to private companies. We will see Fontier models surge in revenue, sure... but Open Source
Maybe the model makers should collectively pause hiring until the safety teams have time to figure out how to better "align" new hires.
