Their dynamics as found family and personalities are top notch and the best the series has done (and judith is here too), like as characters they are written well, but I think that the overall story structure of the daybreak games is what holds them back a little
Not that I don't expect them to be building up for something further down the line, after all one of my favorite characters is rufus, a character who I absolutely hated in cs but was heavily recontextualized. But I think it's super valid to feel a little disconnected with ASO
I would absolutely never say ASO are bland, but db1 does not really do them justice and did not endear me to them and I felt uninvested in them for a while. I felt the same about cs1 for about half of old C7 and it's about the same with ASO.
Read another review on Daybreak earlier on how the ASO is bland and I just feel like there is a fundamental misunderstanding on how Calvard as a whole goes about character development compared to every other arc in the series. (Kai Spoilers)

@VOOCommander @SaffronOlive I agree that this is the main culprit. There is a lot more room for strategic decisionmaking and deckbuilding when the biggest threat is Mantis Rider, which would barely pass in Limited these days, over Slickshots, Crabs, and Sunderflock

Someone should make a video game that is actively harmful, not like its propaganda for dangerous opinions but just simply playing it somehow measurably deteriorates your physical/mental/emotional health like just booting it up and playing for an hour guarantees you ruin your day
