there are a few golden rules of posting I've observed for VCs, most are obvious. maybe the top one is: don't use your pitch meetings as content. it's disrespectful and lame 👍
One of the most counterintuitive and frustrating things about running a devtools/infra company is that praise for the product on social is almost always a countersignal. Your feed is likely full of companies/founders retweeting people who talk about how much they love their product. we love product X, product Y is so thoughtful, got set up on product Z today and WOW it's amazing! Look at these peoples' bios. without a doubt, every time, indie hackers or startup founders who control 0 budget and waste half of their time prematurely optimizing tools that they'll never need to support future scaling of a product that will never grow. Nowhere is this more pronounced than databases. If you follow any of the self serve DBaaS accounts and look at the endless praise they retweet, it's all coming from cloutless and immaterial accounts. it's great that they love the product, but it has 0 business signal. Unfortunately, our brains are pretty dumb and it's almost impossible to ignore the dopamine you get when you see a random taking the time to proactively post about how much they love your product. this is fine. soak it up. You earned it. But if you ever let this creep into becoming a goal, or something you optimize for (dangerously: subconscious) you are making a big mistake. The legit internet praise will come as a result of having a good business, probably not the other way around.
