@innoc_bystander @bobbyfijan Requires a very walkable area, but my kids went to a daycare with no outdoor space at all. They frequently would walk to a nearby park. Pretty common in larger cities I'd think.

@realEstateTrent We recently just lied about number of kids, got a room with two queens, got a crib for the baby, had two kids share one bed, and we used the other. Was fine for a night, for our vacations we try to book at a place that has two proper bedrooms.

@bobbyfijan My municipality has effectively banned attached garages by not allowing any part of the driveway to be between the facade of the primary building and the front of the lot. Not really sure how I feel about it. They're ugly but also sometimes the best use of space

@amoralorealis A lot of these hard costs go to the cost of housing the people building these buildings. It's possible that small decreases in the floor realize big decreases in the overall cost of the problem

@bobbyfijan What does this look like if you only have 35' of building width to play with (after setbacks), but have 60' of depth? I'm thinking this could be a common scenario in my town. Seems like you might end up with a whole lot more hallway

@macroRoc1 My understanding is that retail uses, and some arts uses are allowed in pretty much all of Somerville (including a triple decker). I also think a brewery or similar "artisanal production" would be allowed via special permit.

@SMB_Attorney I'm in the middle of doing my EMBA at Sloan. Has been a good experience so far. They don't require test scores but I believe do look at them if you provide them. I've definitely gotten value from the program so far.

@bgm_ward5 My guess is that both of the Somerville pictures you posted are in places zoned to have side setbacks, but allow for a driveway in the setback. That rule (let alone parking minimums) encourages more parking. Parking ends up being the most profitable use for the setback area.

@joshjob42 @mnolangray I think it would be pretty easy to rent out that same space to someone not living in the building at the same price if they wanted to.
