The Iconic Wounded Hero Hussein Al-Miqdad Has Ascended as a Martyr From Hezbollah’s Central Security Unit, one of the disciples of Martyr Hajj Imad Mughnieh and his emissary to the Holy Land of occupied Palestine, came a story of deferred martyrdom — a story marked by wounds, captivity, steadfastness, and a school of beautiful patience. In 2024, after years of extraordinary perseverance, the iconic wounded prisoner Hussein Al-Miqdad attained his PhD in Business Administration, reaffirming the profound importance of education for those wounded and imprisoned by the occupation. His journey proved that disability, captivity, and occupation cannot extinguish the human spirit. Rather, he demonstrated that the culture of life is a life of dignity, honour, knowledge, and resilience — a life made possible through the sacrifices of martyrs and the steadfastness of the wounded. Before his injury, Hajj Hussein was married and the father of a daughter. He held a degree from the Lebanese American University and worked as a teacher at Al-Hussein bin Ali Vocational School. In 1996, he entered occupied Palestine using a British passport to carry out a security operation. During its execution, a technical error caused the explosive device to detonate prematurely. The blast left him blind and deprived him of his senses of taste and smell. Both of his legs were amputated above the knees, his right hand was amputated, and three fingers of his left hand were lost. Following a period of treatment in an Israeli hospital, Hussein endured six months of interrogation. He remained imprisoned until his release in a prisoner exchange in June 1998. Yet captivity did not become the end of his story. It became another chapter in his journey of perseverance. He pursued his education with extraordinary determination, obtaining a Master's degree in Philosophy from Islamic Azad University through correspondence, followed by a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Lebanese International University. In 2012, he began working with Hezbollah’s Educational Mobilization, dedicating himself to religious and ideological outreach in schools, universities, and other educational institutions, while also undertaking logistical responsibilities within the organization. Those who knew Hajj Hussein described him as exceptionally cultured, intellectually accomplished, spiritually strong, and possessed of extraordinary morale. His life stands as a testament to a simple but profound truth: the human being can lose much of his physical strength without losing his will, his dignity, his intellect, or his purpose. Today, Hajj Hussein Al-Miqdad has finally ascended as a martyr. His wounds became medals. His captivity became a lesson in patience. His disability became a testament to determination. His education became a declaration that knowledge cannot be defeated by occupation. And his life became a testimony to dignity in the face of adversity. No video brings me to tears like the footage from South Lebanon's liberation 26 years ago. You can physically feel the joy through the screen, like you're right there celebrating with them. Hezbollah gave those people their freedom back and let them breathe again.
