On the plus side these are all drones that aren’t being used again. Also we don’t know if each seizure belongs to one separate individual or if the same person(s) have been caught multiple times. #FrequentFlyers 😆 “Most violations so far have resulted in citations and seizures rather than arrests.” At some point, for the person flying stuff they purchased themselves, it’s get prohibitively expensive very quick.

discord got caught up in age verification laws (UK online safety act, australia's under-16 ban) so they started collecting government IDs and face scans from users to prove their age they outsourced the manual ID review to a third party called 5CA in october 2025 a group called Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters hit 5CA and walked away with ~1.5TB of data. claimed over 2.1 million government ID photos from 5.5 million users discord confirmed at least 70,000 people had their passport/driver's license photos exposed 5CA then denied they ever handled IDs and denied being hacked. cool this is what happens when you force platforms to hoard sensitive biometric data just to let people use an app

Every consumer off the shelf drone now days emits Remote ID as required by the FAA. It gives the drone's unique identifier, its current location, altitude, and the location of the pilot or control station. So that’s already widely in use. Sure you can build your own and go without or hack it to disable it. But the vast majority of offending aircraft are likely broadcasting. There’s apps you can download to find those broadcasts but they generally suck and iOS only scans Bluetooth it won’t scan WiFi, Android will. Given phone limitations you need to be fairly close to the offending drones. That’s for the John Q. Public side. There are really good detection capabilities available to government and law enforcement now days. Heck, DJI’s own AeroScope will work out to 50km. The detection is already there and has been for some time. The prosecution and upholding standards hasn’t been. Also how many people know to call their local FSDO to report illegal drone use? This scourge of idiots doing illegal stuff with drones could be ended/greatly reduced very quickly but no one wants to do it. First, you have to throw the book at every single one, no slap on the wrist. Real damaging fines, confiscation of their aircraft, etc. You need to wreck them so hard they don’t ever dare try again. Then, you have to do something about the recreational side being able to “pass” a test that doesn’t let you fail. There needs to be a bare minimum standard that’s actually worth the paper it’s printed on. TRUST is not. Finally, the industry needs to socially ostracize these asshats to the point where the lazy people that aren’t going bother learning just give up and leave the hobby/industry. The longer we don’t do those things the more paranoid the public becomes because they only see the idiots misusing drones and not those of us who took the time to learn and fly legal. That makes our jobs harder as well.

@JimJawja @wontonimobae Yup. Dont ever put me in charge. I’d throw the book at all of them no remorse. I’d also scrap The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST). It’s a damn joke. It’s a test you can’t possibly fail and it’s kindergarten level compared to the Part 107 exam.
