Denver City Council blocked Denver International Airport from leasing space to Key Lime Air, because the airline worked with ICE. There was just one problem… It violates FAA rules. So what did they do? City attorney Miko Brown allegedly urged the airport to fabricate an investigation into the airline’s safety record to cover up for illegally discriminating against the airline for political reasons. In Luke 22, Jesus clearly contrasts two seasons of ministry. Earlier, He sent the disciples out without money, bags, or supplies, and they lacked nothing. Now He tells them to take provisions — and even to buy a sword. That shift suggests something practical has changed. They are about to enter a hostile world without the same kind of supernatural covering they had before. From this view, the sword isn’t about advancing the Kingdom by force — Christianity has never been spread that way. But it does acknowledge personal responsibility and preparedness. Scripture elsewhere recognizes legitimate self-defense (for example, Exodus 22 and the principle of government bearing the sword in Romans 13). So this passage can reasonably be understood as Jesus permitting prudent preparation in a dangerous world. When the disciples say they have two swords and Jesus replies, “That is enough,” the point doesn’t seem to be building an armed resistance — two swords wouldn’t defend against Rome. Rather, He’s closing the discussion. And when Peter uses his sword, Jesus rebukes him not because all self-defense is wrong, but because Peter was interfering with the prophetic necessity of the cross. So from this perspective, Luke 22:36 reflects a transition: from a uniquely protected mission to a time when believers must act responsibly in a fallen world. It’s not a call to aggression — but it is recognition that danger is real and preparedness is wise. I don’t think this cancels out Jesus’ teachings on peace at all. It just acknowledges that peace and prudence aren’t opposites.
