June 25. 17 years have passed since the world lost the King Of Pop. 👑 In this photo, I chose to wear an outfit inspired by one of the greatest artists to ever walk this earth, not because I wanted to look like Michael, but because I wanted to honor the man whose life, music, and message have inspired so much of my own journey. @michaeljackson passed away at just 50 years old. Today, I'm 40. That reality reminds me that life is precious, time isn't promised, and every year we are given is an opportunity to leave this world better than we found it. Michael endured more than most people could ever imagine. Years of physical pain after the Pepsi commercial accident. Childhood trauma. Constant public scrutiny. Living with vitiligo while the world questioned his appearance instead of trying to understand it. Endless accusations, criticism, and judgment. Yet through all of that, he continued to create music that encouraged people to heal, love one another, protect children, care for the planet, and believe that humanity could be better. That's the Michael Jackson I choose to remember. As someone who has experienced betrayal, heartbreak, abandonment, manipulation, bullying, being misunderstood, and being judged by people who never truly knew me, I've often found pieces of my own story in Michael's music. Songs like Stranger in Moscow, Human Nature, Will You Be There, and Man in the Mirror remind me that pain doesn't have to define us, it can transform us. This is #MensMentalHealthMonth, and I think Michael's story reminds us of something important: success, fame, and talent don't make anyone immune to emotional pain. We never truly know what someone is carrying behind the smile they show the world. I've had moments where I questioned myself. Moments where I felt neglected, used, manipulated, gaslighted, and unworthy. But those experiences didn't make me bitter. They taught me resilience. They taught me empathy. They taught me to continue choosing kindness even when the world hasn't always chosen it for me. Michael's greatest legacy wasn't just his music. It was his compassion. His generosity. His philanthropy. His belief that healing the world begins with healing ourselves. That's a legacy worth carrying forward. Seventeen years later, the music still lives. The message still lives. One month ago, I turned 40. To be honest, it doesn’t feel the way I thought it would. I don’t feel old. I don’t feel like I’ve got everything figured out. What I do feel is grateful. Grateful for the lessons. Grateful for the setbacks. Grateful for the victories. Grateful for the people who stayed, the people who left, and the experiences that helped shape me into the man I am today. At 40, I’ve learned that life isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about continuing to grow, continuing to learn, and continuing to move forward even when the path isn’t always clear. There comes a point in life when you realize that character is revealed not by how we treat the people we agree with, but by how we treat the people we don't. Over the last few days, I've watched people celebrate insults, mockery, and personal attacks as if they were victories. And honestly, that's disappointing. Because somewhere along the way, we've confused cruelty with strength. We've confused disrespect with courage. We've confused tearing people down with standing for something. As someone who has spent nearly 13 years building @ARCGMedia around storytelling, community impact, resilience, and human connection, I believe we are capable of being better than this. Regardless of your politics, regardless of your beliefs, regardless of who you voted for, there should be one thing that remains non-negotiable: Respect for one another. Today, I choose to recognize @MichelleObama not because of politics, but because of the example she has set through leadership, service, education, advocacy, and grace under pressure. What has always impressed me most is not her accomplishments. It's her ability to remain composed while being the target of criticism, negativity, and attacks that would break many people. That is resilience. Not revenge. Not retaliation. Not becoming what hurt you. Resilience is maintaining your dignity when others are trying to take it from you. The world doesn't need more outrage. It doesn't need more division. It doesn't need more people looking for reasons to hate one another. It needs more empathy. More compassion. More accountability. More humanity. And perhaps most importantly, it needs more people willing to choose respect when disrespect would be easier. We can disagree. We can debate. We can challenge ideas. But we should never lose our humanity in the process. Because at the end of the day, the measure of our character is not how loudly we can criticize someone. Today, my heart is heavy as I learned of the passing of Julio Perez. ❤️‍🩹 Although he was one my mother's close friends, he was so much more than that to me and my sister. When we were kids, Julio always made us feel important. He would take us out to dinner on weekends, whether it was @Applebees or somewhere else, and he always treated us as if we were his own. What I admired most about Julio was the way he treated my mom and all of us. He was kind, respectful, supportive, and always showed up when it mattered most. When my grandmother passed away, Julio came to pay his respects to our family. That gesture meant more than he probably ever knew. As I reflect on his life, I keep thinking about his positivity. He always had something encouraging to say. Just last week, he sent me a message, and when I turned 40 a few weeks ago, he took the time to send me a beautiful birthday message. I never imagined that would be one of our last conversations. Those messages, his kindness, his generosity, and the way he made people feel will always stay with me. Thank you, Julio, for the love you showed my family, for the respect you gave my mother, and for always treating me and my sister like your children.
