The relative nino daily index has now hit 2C, now making this officially a super El Nino event. We have once again pulled ahead of 1997 with daily values, making this once again on track to being the strongest El Nino on record in recent history. Incredible stuff!

Taking a look at the four years that are shaping up to be strong analogs for 2027 — (1998, 2003, 2007, 2016) all hurricane seasons following an El Niño that transitioned into a La Niña event. One thing I have noticed is that most of these seasons tend to have a major out to sea or East Coast trend during the early part of the season (Jun-Sep) and are mostly dead in the Caribbean until Oct/Nov. The sole exception is 2007 which had peak season activity in the Caribbean with Dean & Felix. I have seen a lot of comparisons to next year’s environment with 2024 and the potential for an early season storm like Beryl. There is basically no evidence to support that anything like that is likely next year. 2027 is looking to be a slow burner year in the Atlantic, quieter start, busy finish.
