Le Dr Adnan Al-Bursh, chef du service d'orthopédie de l'hôpital Al-Shifa à Gaza, était l'un des chirurgiens les plus respectés de Palestine. Au plus fort des bombardements, il opérait sans relâche, parfois plus de vingt patients en une seule journée. En décembre 2023, il est arrêté par l'armée israélienne alors qu'il soigne des blessés à l'hôpital Al-Awda. Quatre mois plus tard, Israël annonce sa mort en détention. Sans explication publique sur les causes de son décès. Depuis, des témoignages d'anciens détenus, des organisations israéliennes de défense des droits humains, des experts des Nations unies et plusieurs enquêtes décrivent un tableau glaçant : passages à tabac, torture, humiliations, violences sexuelles présumées et absence de soins. Une rapporteuse spéciale de l'ONU a appelé à une enquête internationale indépendante et s'est dite horrifiée par les circonstances de sa mort. Un médecin. Pas un combattant. Un homme qui avait choisi de sauver des vies. Aujourd'hui encore, son corps n'a toujours pas été rendu à sa famille. Le silence face à de tels faits n'est pas de la neutralité.
