@Wassajja_Aiden The beauty of the adversarial system though is that the evidence brought before the court by the Crown can be challenged. I advise you review the full DNA, pathology and medical evidence before talking about convictions. With ballistics and GSR still to come

@Mukobbelwa @TonyNatif You are absolutely correct, the expectation is that only a portion of the DNA will transfer, however the huge issue we have is that we never know how much DNA was present in the first place. Equally depending on the tests carried out, we might not know if there is a body fluid
@TonyNatif @Mukobbelwa Even then, depending on the case circumstances, because we can’t age DNA we cannot eliminate indirect transfer. Imagine you fly to America and then the plane goes to Australia, your DNA could end up in Australia through transfer from the person sitting in your seat
@Mukobbelwa @TonyNatif With the sensitivity of the DNA techniques now and the knowledge of indirect transfer, DNA can’t show direct contact with an object either. So someone’s DNA can be on an object without them having any contact with it

@kyakundwa @TonyNatif @PoliceUg No system is infallible. In the UK we have miscarriages of justice, the Andrew Malkinson case being a terrible failing. The science is always evolving and there is always a place for bodies to investigate potential miscarriages of justice.
@_Susan_Nava Very good question! We use likelihood ratios in different aspects of casework. In relation to DNA there is some misunderstanding as to what a LR means. The statistic only relates to the possible source of the DNA it says nothing as to how, when or by who the DNA transferred.
@ACherukut @Juliorockstax @TonyNatif @PoliceUg This is a different type of DNA test from the one at trial. This relates to paternity DNA. As DNA is inherited from our parents, a biological offspring will share half of their DNA with their mum and half with their dad. A parent can be eliminated if this sharing isn’t observed.
