The ball is livelier this year than it has been since 2019, the Year of the Homer. Drag is down. Batted ball distances up. Both controlled for weather and altitude. Manufacturing error on the ball making for 'splotchy balls,' but MLB doesn't think it's related.

Over 770,000 half-innings analyzed. The majority of half-innings don’t get RISP. That doesn’t mean runs weren’t scored; solo and two run HR (runner on first) are possible but don’t fit the search parameters. Overall, interesting pattern and COVID-shortened 2020 still on trend
So I ran a python command that for each half inning finds the first pitch where a runner is in scoring position and records how many outs there are at that moment. The data set is all pitches from 2008- present

@loop_hohl I like that. Years ago I saw arguments in favor of shift ban because the shift wasn't fair to lefties, and it's like .. no, you're right, it's not. But: so what? Lefties can't play the infield or catch. RH don't get the platoon advantage as much. What's supposed to be 'fair'?
