its seriously stupid, another reason why real alt culture has fallen off so significantly is because no one wants to be open about their likes and dislikes out of fear of being judged. THAT IS THE POINT OF ALT!!

@Tuffwan_7 @trveschizo @minjiluvr67 making remarks at someone because they enjoy an artist that is slightly popular, calling them out for not being ACTUALLY cool if they god forbid enjoy a popular artist, is part of what has killed the alt culture honestly. everyone is too afraid to just like what they like

@Tuffwan_7 @trveschizo @minjiluvr67 pretentious people like you are part of the problem, it doesn't matter if the band someone likes is niche or popular. theres no correct way to be alt, what matters is your intentions as to why you identify with that subculture, or if you even acknowledge it at all

but it ran deeper than that. it was based around specific beliefs, and THATS what helped you connect to others. now all people care about is wearing the "niche" band tee, getting the "cool" haircut, to seem the coolest. its all very competitive and pseudo-alt.

ive been meaning to talk about this, but literally. with social media now and everyone's shortened attention spans, no one has time for educating themselves on a subculture. they see a tiktok ootd of an outfit they like, they adopt that style and wear it, no more thought given

“Alt” means nothing. Nobody identifies as goth or emo or anything they just dye their hair purple, listen to a 90s band, and they’re like yeah im #alt and im different.
