We allow Russian military soldiers to be given visas, the ones killing Ukrainians on the field,” Kulbergs said in an interview with Politico. France and Italy opposed the broader ban during negotiations, arguing that the issue should be handled through EU visa policy rather than sanctions. The resulting framework was narrowed, and implementation has yet to become fully operational. Think about that for a moment. Russian soldiers can fight in Ukraine — and then potentially apply for a visa to enter Europe. Kulbergs also slammed attempts to reopen dialogue with the Kremlin, calling them a “pointless exercise.” He said there is no evidence Putin is genuinely ready to negotiate and warned that talks could simply give Russia breathing room to prepare its next move. His position on future relations with Moscow is equally clear: normalization should come only after Russia pays reparations to Ukraine and those responsible for war crimes are brought to justice. Europe spent years saying: “Never again.” Latvia is asking a very uncomfortable question: What exactly does “never again” mean if the men who participated in Russia’s war can still potentially enter Europe?

I’d like to reiterate how difficult it is to have granola infected with salmonella. It’s even more difficult than chili peppers, and no, it’s not “foreign producers” that are the problem. It’s quality control and standards not being enforced.

SNYDER: Ukrainians, who aren’t even NATO members, are doing by themselves what all NATO members supposed to be doing together. For 75 years, United States operated from assumption that there could be a war coming out of Soviet Union, Russia. That people would help other people. Now that war finally came. That war came in 2014, and then in 2022. What did United States do to help Ukraine? Biden administration helped financially and with sanctions. Which wasn’t enough, by the way, but what did Trump administration do? Trump people didn't do anything. Trump people can’t do anything because they don’t like the idea that somebody is helping everybody else. Trump people don’t like idea of institutions, alliances, reciprocity, and it makes all much harder for Ukrainians. Terrible fact is Ukrainians ended up helping everybody else. They're fulfilling entire NATO mission themselves.
