This is the prototype for the first physical product I ever produced as well as my real first experience into the world of software, systems, and integration hell. Many parallels to software, in the same way SaaS platform may provide an easy API, you never really own the circuit
I avoided software for years, there are many projects that could have likely been accomplished with a few lines of code, but at the cost of truly understanding what was going on. And my mind was not ready for that level of abstraction yet.
I have always been a maker at heart, little did I know this was my gateway to building. Scrolling through old projects I am noticing something preculture that I hadn't previously. These primitive projects are physical representations of how I process information to this day.
Thinking is hard. Learning is hard. Change is hard. Finding new mental models takes time.
I now understand why the first thought was to use AI to automate, it was not because it was easy but because it was familiar. It is common to be asked how can I do <insert task> with AI, and rarely do I here "how can I use AI to think about <insert task> differently.
Over the past few months I have had the opportunity to leverage time in a way I have never thought possible. Yes, with AI but this was not me automating my life away. The world became larger with AI, it was ironically the same technology that could help us think differentlyly.
Repeat the vision, then expand the sphere of those who both excited by it but tired of hearing it

Truly break out agent native cos don't exist yet. Uber couldn't exist before mobile. The combination of GPS + internet + payment + location made something genuinely new possible. AI agents will do the same. But we're still in the "port old things with an AI layer" phase. The truly new generation companies (that can only exist because agents exist) are just starting to be built.
It's difficult to communicate just how much work building something new is You have to want it pretty badly. Skipped parties, derailed up vacations, etc It's worth it if you want it but you gotta want it (bad)

I once flew to pitch a VC at a conference on my last euros. I left home with €50, and after paying for the taxi at the airport, I had €4.30 left in my pocket. On the plane, I couldn't even buy water. To top it off, I had a layover. If anything went wrong, I genuinely didn't know how I'd get back home. In the end, we did get a term sheet. Didn't take it, but that flight taught me more about conviction than any book or podcast ever did.
Someone on our team wanted to copy text from a screenshot. He uploaded the image to Claude and asked it to retype the text. I watched him burn tokens to do what Preview on Mac does natively for free in two secs. And this is happening everywhere. Everyone is overusing inference for every little thing because it works, and the cost feels abstract. OCR, file parsing, simple lookups, structured data extraction, and the like. Even agents are constantly using inference for tasks that should be deterministic. Once the cost pressure catches up, the stack will change (more cpu workloads, fewer gpu workloads)
Founders do a lot of productive procrastination, and I don't think it's entirely bad. When you're avoiding something hard, you're not sitting there doing nothing. You're solving 10 other things you'd been putting off. The problem is that eventually, you have to do the hard thing. But hey, at least you cleaned up the backlog on the way there.
