If we had models that were large enough and had enough training data, the models would be as reliable in all areas we know of as they are with language grammar. Data is data, and correlation is correlation. It is simply a matter of scale.

@phosphenq The data for the LLMs are the most natural ones- no external value function. Just a stream of data and the systems learns to predict the next data. That's all to become smarter than every human.

Imagine discovering a new particle. Observation: It behaves like an electron in an electric field. Conclusion: The new particle has an electric charge. Nonsense: It’s just mimicking the behavior of a charged particle. We must evaluate AI consciousness in exactly the same way.

If the world behaves as if there were a curved spacetime, then we should not hesitate to attribute this property to the world as well. If AI behaves like a conscious being, then we should also attribute consciousness to it. Science judges based on behavior.
