There is a reason right wing influencers and media were setup to take footage of the so called "invasion of Ceuta" and why it was distributed so quickly online, including by top US officials with anti-EU stances. Spain needs to initiate an inquiry into this orchestrated attack.
The "invasion in Ceuta" is not a "mass migration" event, it is an orchestrated breach; participants stormed the beach (from land), shopped around, the majority left home afterwards. This was likely organised online through WhatsApp or Facebook by U.S./Musk influence networks.
The New York Times has spoken with several Moroccan nationals who say they were encouraged to cross into Ceuta by the Moroccan authorities.
The Moroccan youth who committed illegal crossings into Ceuta were deceived and manipulated by groups on social media that are yet to be discovered. Many of them (but not all) started returning after terrorising Ceuta with their mass influx. Morocco clearly fears repercussions for its actions—or lack of action—in instrumentalising illegal migration. Rabat might claim they could not do enough, but that is a weak argument for several reasons: - Morocco has been encouraging illegal migration through its territory for years, creating a distinct pattern and itinerary. - No evidence has appeared in the media so far showing that Rabat made any attempt to shut down the social media channels mobilising the youth. - This action coincided with meetings and agreements between the Spanish Prime Minister and Algeria, with which Morocco has lasting disputes. - Why did Moroccan youth start their influx only three weeks after the controversial decision of the Spanish Supreme Court? The European Commission confirms that no "onward movement" of migrants has been detected from Ceuta towards mainland Spain or the rest of the continent. Ceuta and Melilla are subject to different rules under Article 41 of the Schengen Code, which means ID checks already apply.
