Australia isn’t “going broke” and the facts don’t support claims that it is. Yes, many Australians are doing it tough. Housing is expensive, groceries cost more, insurance premiums have soared, and cost-of-living pressures are real. But that’s very different from saying the nation is bankrupt. S&P Global has reaffirmed Australia’s AAA credit rating, placing us among the world’s safest and strongest economies. That rating reflects our ability to meet financial obligations, the strength of our institutions, and confidence from global investors. Household financial stress is real. National insolvency is not. Political debate should be based on evidence, not slogans designed to create fear. Australia faces serious challenges housing, productivity and living costs but the claim that the country is “going broke” simply isn’t supported by the facts. Australians deserve an honest conversation, not scare campaigns.
