As a clinician, and a woman in recovery, I can understand this POV. I do think it’s quite harmful though. Not all therapy is “rent a friend” therapy. Ex. Someone you pay to listen to the things your friends are tired of hearing to you complain about! That’s unethical! I don’t believe in identifying as our negative symptoms either. “I am Nadia and I am an alcoholic” Over and over and over. It goes against what we know about the human brain and conditioning/ creating our reality. Being a healer for me, is a connection and a collaboration. Some people have never said certain things outloud, that MUST come out of their body in order to heal. Some people have no idea that humans have built in structures to heal themselves daily. Some knowledge was taken away from humans and preserved for the elite. This is why many highly skilled practitioners do not accept insurance bc it dictates care. How to care for our body, mind, relationship to self, others and our spirit should be fundamental knowledge for every human. Basic education. This is not the case. Humans wouldn’t participate in the “American Dream” to the detriment of their wellness, if they knew. If such knowledge was not systematically whitewashed out of history and cultures, we would not need jobs that provide health insurance, that provides subpar counterintuitive bandaids for preventable diseases.
