Media Release: New refinery useless without domestic oil production A new oil refinery proposed for Western Australia will not solve the nation’s fuel security issues if it relies on imports for feed stock. One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson said Labor’s announcement of a
My attempt to compress the news about the NSW - AEMO clash into an oped published in the Daily Telegraph today. This is the consequence of AEMO’s rosy, optimistic desktop models clashing with the financial reality of closing deals for a more expensive system.
Angry diatribe from me after staying back to write this up. I’m pissed because this shit-show has been buried so effectively for so long. And more pissed that even when the conflicts and contradictions erupt into public, they might still get away with it because no one cares.
Yeah well, saying thank you for your service still won't make the pain of your impending Bpay any easier. We can't keep relying on people like yourself to have to keep the ship afloat. Payroll tax must be amongst the first to go. But we can't do this without effective state level representation. And we still have a huge void here. We're all having to place way too much trust that ON will secure both good candidates, and write good policy, starting in Vic. They have very little awareness of state level operations. Which is where half the ruinous taxes live. Abolishing income tax is beyond our societal capabilities. This is not to say theoretical models don't exist (fintrans). And the transition could commence, but peeling Australians off their IV cash drip isn't an overnighter. We start with asking ourselves where does government belong in our lives, and how much presence should they have? Shrink government and we can afford to reduce income tax. Scrap snowy. Recut aukus. A hundred solid ways to save and give money back to you, as you can spend it better than they can
If you believe Ai Data Centres can be run from renewables in any sort of cost effective way, you are either uneducated or criminally negligent. Without NEW baseload Nuclear and/or coal, Australia will NEVER be able to host GW Ai Datacentres. Not even on gas. WAKE UP, Gronks.
ALP policy on DC and AI had nothing to do with tech..it was renewable energy policy by stealth. Three points of policy failure: 1. Cost of renewables for will be stratospheric 2. Grid stability will be undermined. So firming needed. With the usual over capacity factor of about 3x. So the BESS installs are larger and noisier than the DC itself. 3. Timing. You can build the DC much faster than you can the renewables and firming. So by this necessary coupling, they've further compromised our grid. Gas is borderline. Generally easier to co-locate the DC to the reserves. Which is why Beetaloo is a cracker. Oceans of gas with minimal diesel UPS needed. But this gas supply is rare. Carnarvon. Beetaloo. Bowen (no relation). Browse and Surat CSG. These are remote, meaning latency issues and water challenges due to hotter climates. Every day we waste on new coal and uranium is killing our future wealth
@AHuman_LikeU @PaulineHansonOz Sorry, and to be clear in context. She wasn't venturing into 'how to improve local council regulations'... She was merely 'reciting a time'.. reminiscing.
Funny hearing @PaulineHansonOz talking about local council food requirements. I still remember when running a food business whilst doing my undergrad, that 3 local councils each had very different requirements for water taps. One required laser sensor hands free, the next a foot operated pedal for hands free, the third 'let it rip' So i let it rip....
@AHuman_LikeU @PaulineHansonOz It was on paul Murray live last night. Id imagine the segment is now on the web
It is feasible Scott. There are no technical, geological nor societal constraints which need prevent it. We have hundreds of these things on earth. It's not *viable* The answer to your question is "In the high single to low double digits of billions over the operating life of the asset" What is the operating life of this asset? 20 years. It's usually 50 to 70 but Australia would seen realise we not only had to subsidise its construction and commissioning, but it's operation too. In the tens to hundreds of millions per annum. So a future government will be forced to withdraw forever funding, and the operator will mothball. Eventually they'd likely walk away and, having been utterly inept on the initial contract, the government would be forced to pay for the decommissioning and make good. Whilst blaming previous governments. The perpetual circle jerk. Some interesting questions: 1. Is there any world in which this refinery nullifies fuel risk? No. The simple fact is we simply don't possess the heavier crude grades. So we'd need to keep importing these. And so immediately your sovereign fuel capability is in absolute tatters. Deader than a dolphin circling the Exxon Valdez. 2. Why should government subsidise the PFS and P-FEED? Because Vikas is expert at extracting grants and loans from government. He's doing so with project ceres (urea facility) to the tune of a billion dollars. Perdaman is expert at injecting state moral hazard into its asset portfolio. Pretty much all billionaires are. Socialise the cost and the risk. Only capitalise the profit. With any luck, Albo gets tossed on his arse before the real work starts on this.
And i thought One Nation's Please Explain was comedy zenith. This is like Mao applauding Himmler 'i like your recent IR changes'
Congratulations @BenCarollMP on becoming Premier of Victoria. Working with Ben as Education Minister, we locked in full funding for every Victorian school. Premier, I’m looking forward to working together to deliver better schools, healthcare and more homes for Victorians.
@MarthaThomas20 I presume credlin would know better. RC could be easily paused or unseated x.com/negativevortex…
The One Nation (or LNP) response to a Carroll-instigated RC is obvious. Immediately declare that it is an attempt to pervert justice and avoid accountability. State quite openly that it would have a new Chair, Commissioners and ToR, and that any effort by the Vic ALP would be a
@AvidCommentator Nobody is buying your alibaaaa Broke as a teenager. Morally bankrupt now. Turn yourself in Tarric, i implore ewe.
This branch pushes 150. But we suffer because HQ has been unable to rectify a number of bugs in its member portal, and accounts disappear into the ether. I'm confident based on limited data I'd identified root cause, but they're yet to act. With luck we might push 200, especially if content is made more relevant, *more appropriate*, more engaging and enlightening. Re demographic... Hazard a guess it's 80/20 men. Of those women, many are 'plus one' (not all, some are extremely proud and passionate patriots). I'd reckon only 2 under 30. Which is telling for two reasons....demographic challenges the party faces in its policy, strategy and comms and ... General apathy from younger people who should be more engaged. Their futures are gravely imperiled, yet they're disengaged. Whilst the party celebrates the 'we even have foreigners in our membership', this is an insignificant number. They're neither tailoring the right settings nor spruiking them the right way. As i remind members....by next election...close to 30% of the roll will have been born overseas, with 55% being born overseas or at least one parent who was. Crafting the message (and exercising cunning) are critical. Branches in general... They've experienced remarkable growth, and lack the infrastructure and capabilities to accommodate, so it falls to a small few to do hard yards. Hit and miss branch by branch. Me as a candidate? I was invited by another party several years ago (on account of constantly haranguing them with policy ideas), but politely explained i have the EQ of a sack full of cats and I'd be best placed in a problem solving capacity. Which is never what they want to hear. They want meatbags to 'represent' (very inconspicuously at that). They want to design our country's future, no matter how inept they may be at this. "A man's gotta know his limitations" Its also remarkable how many people i meet expressing interest in candidacy, yet they seem oblivious to the fact they'd be representing a local constituency, for only a defined slice of authority. I pose this to them "imagine being the candidate for inland regional south or west Australia. Border control is of no interest to you. Nor is defence. Even immigration is less of a hot button. But health, education, roads, crime.... that's what agitates your electorate. So why run for Federal and not State?" Many don't comprehend. Some do but don't care. These people worry me. The good people are outside the circle. The ones inside either don't want them in, or cant tell the difference
Take heed. 2 months ago my hairdresser told me a few students at her daughter's school were transitioning. I didn't quite believe it. But today i saw it with my own eyes. But at a different location. A young, reasonably attractive woman who I've worked with sporadically for 2 years issued an email.... declaring: A) her (his!) pronouns B) his (!) new name C) the treatment they're undergoing D) that it's ok to get the new name wrong, but only for 2 or 3 times. Everyone she/he works with seems pretty supportive yet heartbroken at what we see is an unfortunate circumstance. So my own position is clear. Yes, i believe transgenderism is overwhelmingly a sign of psychological distress, perhaps even clinical illness. But possibly not always. I believe in the rights of the individual, so if a mature adult truly believes they need chemical or surgical procedure, they should not be stopped. HOWEVER! - The public should not fund this - Only private hospitals may support this - Society should not be liable for adverse outcomes - Hospitals should be regulated - Practitioners should be regulated - The same hospitals must offer reversal treatments - Surgery must be preceded by counseling. Not the treating hospital. - Surgery must be succeeded by counselling. The treating hospital. And never, under any circumstances, should our education system engage in promoting this notion to students. Attempting to cajole or coerce children to this must be punishable by law. With jailtime. And nobody who has transitioned or is transitioning should be allowed to work or volunteer with children
@negativevortex_ I can not stress enough watch what your school is teaching your kids There is no critical thinking it’s ideology plain and simple
I'm not a parent yet i find it distressing that any parent should have to fear such rampant inculcation. Utterly despicable. By every measure our students are going backwards. Yet the education system is more interested in double digit payrises, koombayah, and what little time is spent with children examines 57 genders, intergenerational trauma and the benefits of hormone therapy. Complete dismantling and rebuild.
Australia, shame on us. Shame on us for continuously voting for political parties which have hoodwinked you so easily. This results table is as sobering as it is demoralising. We didn't place the international physics Olympiad simply because we didn't even bother to compete. And in the smaller feed-in tournament called the Asian physics Olympiad, we placed in the lowly 12 to 15 region. To make it all the more embarrassing, you only have to look at the names of the students competing on our behalf to realise that even our lowly performing team comprised of overwhelmingly Chinese students with one or two Indian students. For those suggesting "diversity is our strength", you should take note that some of these students are not citizens, but indeed on resident visas. Why are we failing It's quite simple really Socialism simply doesn't work in virtually any arena, but especially that of intellectual competitiveness. In a climate where everybody gets a prize and diversity is lauded above meritocracy failure is inevitable. Our education systems from primary school through secondary and into tertiary are undeniably failing us. Their standards are appalling It's time for a root and Branch rebuild of our education systems.

Different breed there. I travel more than I'd like. IMO, melbourne has the laziest WFH attitude, whereas those in Perth suffer from 'must always be in the office syndrome' I worked for a time out of Perth running network engineering projects for BHP WAIO and NiW. Lived in Yanchep. Bloody loved it.
Thanks Robin. I'm pretty much with you on those observations. Your comment re hating gays is spot on. Even more strange given at least 3 well known ON figures are gay. The abortion issue risks being their biggest vote loser. I talk to no end of young women who all echo the same sentiment...'don't be reading me my rights on abortion'. Many are choosing not to support ON for that one simple reason alone. Any anti-abortion female support generally resides with older demographics, whose vote they have anyway. The gun issue i also agree with. Surely it's possible to support farmers, game hunters and sporting shooters without a laissez faire attitude. But i also see the counter to this....shockingly lax remand and incarceration practices, exposing residents to real or perceived harms. I think it's a crying shame we can't get people like yourself into parliament. My guess is it's not lucrative enough for you, or that you couldn't stand being asked to acquiesce in the face of bad policy. You'd want to be the engine room of the decision making process, rather than blindly supporting those less capable in doing so, and more problematic in their actions. I read most of your posts and it reminds me of my own business engagements...i get more done with a crack team of 5 than i could a program of 50. We'd not need 100 MPs to sort the mess out, just 10 gifted ones. Alas, politics isn't geared to have the best percolate to the top. Australians wouldn't recognise it anyway. Re the branch levels, i am trying very, very damned hard from within. Structurally reengineering one and modelling it with the same efficiencies and standards i deliver in large enterprise environments. I'll be presenting on topics such as data centres, AI and the recent national alert, in the hope members stop wetting themselves, whilst becoming better informed and less ignorant. Inviting community discussion which includes excessive regulation in the transport sector. In short, moving it from staid bureaucracy and cult worship, to an enlightened membership who are empowered to have dinner table conversations or debates in the street. But i am really wrestling with entrenched interests! Anyway, thanks again.
@Vic3408 I think they will too. Their challenge is to sustain. It wasn't attraction to ON, it was repulsion from LNP and ALP. So they need to move to a stable footing. An air of calm competence. I hope they can find a way.
Let's be very clear eyed about this. The massive swing to One Nation over the last 12 months has very little to do with One Nation. If you need evidence of this, you can even get it from Pauline. She'll be the first to concede she's remained consistent in her vision and principles. Voters could have 'gone there' many years before. They didn't. The reason is due to the evident dysfunction within the Liberal Party. Time and again, people like myself pondered 'what are you guys doing? Why can't or won't you articulate the policies you know your base wants?' And at each turn, the LNP failed to step up to the plate. What ensued was a mass exodus of voters, now hardened, seeking far more expressive right wing policy. And this has all happened in the absence of operational excellence or political mastery from One Nation. And this is exactly the point. In fact, many of you will openly concede they make many blunders along the way. So the question becomes, if (and it's a big if) One Nation could step it up, and not only match but exceed the other parties in terms of strategy, comms, policy presentation, speech writing, etc - just how far could they go? Honestly? I think a primary beginning with a 4 is not out of the question. That becomes seismic in Australian political history.
🚨 NEW: The latest federal MRP released by DemosAU shows One Nation leading the nationwide primary vote and projected to win 60 seats – with Labor only slightly ahead of them and falling short of majority government
I worked with the precursor to AEMO for a time. Around 2008, when Rudd started rolling out Gore-esque and Flannery-ite policy, the organisation shifted from its focus on process and data, towards regulation reinforcing climate alarmism. It really went south under Turnbull, then off the cliff with Albo Mk1.
I'm going to say this for the umpteenth time. If Will is interested in progressing the case for nuclear power generation in this country (and he very much seems to be), and If Aidan Morrison @FootnotesGuy wants the best integrated energy model servicing this country's energy needs and If @PaulineHansonOz and @MRobertsQLD and @Barnaby_Joyce want to educate and utterly convince their members of the merits of nuclear (so that i dont have to) Then we should be convening a national summit on the topic. Get everyone's cards on the table. Invite ANSTO and the dimwits from CSIRO. Invite AEMO. Broadcast it during the day live on foxtel. I'd be interested in seeing @DrewHutton45645 give his perspective. It's not like you wouldn't fill a convention centre for this. It elevates awareness but also would make One Nation look like the thought leader and driver in this space
South Australian Labor Premier Peter Malinauskus says "nuclear power has an important role to play globally" yet is uneconomic in Australia. So why not lift the ban to settle the question? Why does it stack up for the 38 countries pledged to triple nuclear by 2050, but just
@TMFScottP @Spekul8tor You don't just throw unlimited amounts at risk. You price it accordingly. Australia simply cant afford fuel sovereignty, plus windmills, plus AUKUS, plus NDIS. Unless? We use super? x.com/negativevortex…
