It bothers me when I see a good number of African children, especially Nigerians in Canada unable to communicate in their mother tongue. What is further concerning is the belief that it's some sort of flex. While it's important to assimilate or be absorbed into the Canadian or any other culture, losing oneself shouldn't be an indirect correlate to the former. We might want to adopt Kofi Awoonor's stance in his poem, "The Anvil and the Hammer", regarding building an identity that reflects both the canadian and African culture; in this context. To end my "rant", it might interest you to know that studies like, "The Ife Six Year Project" and other mother tongue related studies have shown that children's learning of their mother tongue alongside any form of L2 helps them academically. Former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman has been convicted over the criminal diversion of ₦33.8 billion. 3. Former Attorney General Abubakar Malami has forfeited 48 properties worth ₦212 billion. 4. Malami is also facing a 16-count charge of conspiracy and money laundering involving an alleged ₦8.7 billion, alongside his wife and one of his sons. 5. Just imagine, among the assets forfeited by Malami was a mosque in Kebbi State built with proceeds of illicit wealth. He doesn't have the fear of Almighty Allah. 6. While we might want to argue about the politics of the office, the primary goal should be service before politics. If we were progress oriented, we would allow for people that challenge us, they would be one of the driving forces to ensure there are no lapses. You no go won give them something to talk about. @Gemxka @gbengadewoyin We can lie to ourselves about "cause and effects" in order to justify hate to another human by extension; kids. It doesn't erase the fact; a line has been crossed. I didn't say all Igbos are bigots. I used the word, some Igbo bigots. Gbenga is a direct example who prompted my write up, and he's in this context used as a synecdoche for some Yorubas exhibiting bigotry. If you look at the context of the full text, you will agree with me that it wasn't a one sided malicious statement. In all: All tribes have bigots and bigotry is super annoying; especially when you bring kids in it.
