The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Rourkela, successfully concluded the ANRF-Sponsored One-Month Internship & Training Program on “AI-Enabled Next-Generation Connectivity (Wireless & IoT)”, conducted from 18th May to 16th June 2026. The valedictory session, held on 16th June 2026, marked the successful culmination of a month-long academic and research-oriented journey focused on emerging technologies in Artificial Intelligence, Wireless Networks, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 130 participants in hybrid mode, including students, research scholars, and faculty members representing institutions from various states across India. Throughout the internship, participants engaged in expert lectures, hands-on training sessions, simulation-based learning, technical discussions, and project-oriented activities. The program provided a unique platform for participants to strengthen their technical expertise, gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies, and interact with eminent academicians, researchers, and industry experts. One of the major highlights of the internship was the project development phase, during which participants developed innovative solutions addressing real-world challenges in AI, wireless communication, IoT, intelligent transportation, smart agriculture, cybersecurity, and smart environments. The projects demonstrated exceptional creativity, technical competence, and practical relevance, reflecting the dedication, innovation, and hard work of the participants. Outstanding projects were recognized and awarded during the valedictory ceremony by Prof. Bibhudatta Sahoo, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Prof. Arun Kumar, Course Coordinator. Research Innovation from NIT Rourkela Secures First Rank at Rajasthan Green Innovation Challenge 2026! Prof. Subhankar Paul and his team of PhD scholars, Mr. Amit Shyamal, Mr. Ashutosh Kumar Singh, and Mr. Tarini Ashish Sahoo from the Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering secured First Rank at the 'Rajasthan Green Innovation Challenge (RGIC) 2026'. Organized by the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) in association with Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, the challenge was held from 3–5 June 2026 at @NIT_Jaipur. The award was presented by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, in recognition of the team's outstanding contribution towards sustainable and environmentally focused innovation. As part of the event, the team also showcased their innovation through an exhibition stall at MNIT Jaipur, engaging visitors, researchers, industry representatives, and policymakers. About the Innovation: The team's patented Solar-powered Spherical Floating Photocatalyst System (SFPS) is an advanced wastewater treatment technology designed for industrial-scale applications. The floating photocatalyst spheres efficiently harness sunlight to treat sewage water, dairy and textile effluents, antibiotics, pesticides, and other organic pollutants without requiring external energy input. The technology can also disinfect water by eliminating microorganisms using sunlight or artificial light and remains effective for up to 50–60 reuse cycles. Offering a sustainable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective alternative for industrial wastewater treatment, SFPS has the potential to significantly reduce treatment costs while supporting environmental sustainability. NIT Rourkela Signs MoA for 1975 Batch Alumni Scholarship! NIT Rourkela has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the alumni of the 1975 batch to institute the “1975 Batch Alumni Scholarship”, aimed at supporting deserving students of the institute. Honouring their commitment made during their Golden Jubilee celebrations, the 1975 batch has created a corpus fund of ₹16.57 lakhs to provide financial assistance to meritorious students facing financial constraints. The MoA was signed on 9 June 2026 by Shri Sarat Chandra Padhi (1975 batch alumnus) and Prof. Himanshu Bhushan Sahu (Dean of Alumni, Industry & International Relations at NIT Rourkela). Summer Internship on IoT and Data Analytics Begins at NIT Rourkela! The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NIT Rourkela inaugurated the 'Summer Internship on IoT and Data Analytics for Smart System Design' on 8 June 2026 in the presence of Chief Guest Prof. Swadesh Kumar Pratihar (Dean, SRICCE-NITR). The month-long programme, which will continue until 7 July 2026, has brought together students from different institutions to gain hands-on experience in emerging technologies. The internship is being conducted under the patronage of Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director, NIT Rourkela. Prof. Bibhudatta Sahoo, Head of the Department of CSE, is the Chairperson of the programme, while Prof. Suchismita Chinara, Associate Professor, Department of CSE, is serving as the Convener. The programme offers training in IoT fundamentals, Arduino and ESP microcontrollers, sensor interfacing, wireless communication technologies, cloud connectivity, Python programming, machine learning, data visualization, and smart system design. Through a combination of lectures, laboratory sessions, and project-based learning, participants will develop practical skills in designing intelligent systems and analyzing real-world data.
