Like in pop, in electronic music mechanized studio labor is all over our instruments. (The famous Roland JV card is called “Session.” Who does that replace??) But we break with that origin as much as we return to it. 4/4
There is of course a place for taste as well as a nuanced critique of the role of money and industry in determining particular qualities of our music. But as often as not, nuanced critique will find anticapitalism all over pop, too—capitalism creates resistance. 3/4
