It is often said that the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice. Back in 2016 and 2017, the 8th Senate, under my leadership, rejected Ibrahim Magu’s nomination as substantive EFCC Chairman not once but twice. Still, he remained in office illegally until July 2020, without confirmation by the Senate. At the time, some called our decision political. It wasn’t. We were simply exercising our constitutional duty and standing by what was right. My colleagues in the 8th Senate and I, as well as our families and associates, endured what I can only describe as attempts by Magu to terrorise us. Doing what was right came at a huge personal and public cost. Yesterday, the Court of Appeal ruled that Magu’s prolonged tenure as acting EFCC Chairman was indeed unlawful. Nearly a decade later, I feel vindicated yet again. For those of us who have had the privilege of serving this nation, the deepest lesson in all of this is that time may test one’s conviction, but it always ultimately reveals the value of standing on principle.

This is the reality with almost all the states in Nigeria. The state capital is the most developed region. This is also similar to saying no state in Nigeria is more developed that FCT except Lagos. But with Ilaro mentioned, Offa is more developed than Ilaro. BTW, development

Adeleke deserves his flowers for this one. He won against a lot of odds, the APC machinery, the backing of the party’s bigwigs and a well established political structure. Yet he still came out on top. What makes it even more interesting is that he did it under Accord, a party that many people probably did not even see as a serious force in Osun politics. That says a lot. Adeleke's support appears to have grown beyond the party he is contesting under. People are voting for the man, not just the platform. It also shows that the love and acceptance of the people can sometimes be stronger than party structures and political machinery. Beyond politics, this should remind every politician that good governance matters. People may listen to political promises, but they also remember what a government does, what they can see and what they experience. He defeated Oyetola in 2022 and after APC changed its candidate, he has now defeated the party again. Congratulations to Governor Ademola Adeleke. Politics is politics, but when someone wins against the odds, credit should be given where it is due. Credit also goes to INEC for conducting the election and managing the process professionally. A credible electoral process is important for democracy, and the commission deserves recognition for a job well done. For APC, other political parties and politicians, this should be a time to sit down and ask some honest questions about what went wrong and what needs to change. Sometimes, the problem is not the opposition. Sometimes, the problem is within. At the end of the day, political structures matter, but the people matter more. When the people genuinely connect with a government and feel the impact of good governance, that can become the strongest political structure of all. #MOK
