In the last 48 hours, The New School has fired almost two dozen of our colleagues — full-time faculty and staff — in humanities and social sciences, many of them tenured faculty of color, and multiple staff members, including in social justice.

The New School has been a beacon of critical inquiry and social justice for over a century, thanks to the labor, talents, and dedication of its renown faculty, workers, and students. 
 
I strongly urge @TheNewSchool to immediately extend the deadline for faculty to consider proposed separation packages, to engage collaboratively and in good faith with its workers, to protect the courses and programs that make the New School a globally renowned institution and work to ensure that its legacy endures for decades to come.

Dear friends on the Madleen,   I send you this letter while I’m sitting at my desk 5,700 miles away from where you are right now. I was born in al-Shati Refugee Camp (Beach Camp). Probably that’s where your boat will dock soon. I wish I could be with you as you make this journey. I wish I could see Gaza from the sea, not while standing on the seashore as I did a lot in the past but while on a boat or a ship dozens of miles off the shore. I wish I could be your guide, although the only thing I know about this sea is that it’s blue and that both Gaza and Yaffa lie along its coast. It's official, @Columbia University has caved to Trump: president.columbia.edu/content/fulfil… A deeply troubling development for everyone who cares about academic freedom and the freedom of academic workers and students.

Seems like unilaterally reneging on 3-week-old agreements—then issuing community-wide threats from on high practically daring people to react—isn't the most effective mode of university management.

🔗 bit.ly/tns4palestine Our letter writing campaign to the relevant members of the board of trustees is almost at 2000 letters sent. The New School community demands nothing less than full divestment. The holding of the vote on June 14th is not enough.

The New School Board of Trustees to vote on divestment. Whatever comes of it, TNS's Gaza Solidarity movement should be very proud of the work that extracted this concession. It's also a useful reminder for anyone seeking accountability from universities: keep fighting.

It was really important that the university not be disrupted. That’s why we arrested sleeping students, locked everyone out of all the buildings with no notice, and blockaded the doors with riot cops. Now the university is at peace.
