Per the Market Monitor, Renewable Portfolio Standard costs are surging in PJM. In 2024, the costs exceeded $3.2 billion, up from $987 million in 2018. Costs were primarily driven by New Jersey, with Pennsylvania and Maryland seeing large price hikes due to in-state energy requirements.
JUST IN: Virginia’s Loudoun County expects $1.3 billion in data center tax revenue next year, helping the county cut residents’ property taxes by roughly 30% over the past decade.
NARRATOR: federal revenues as a % of GDP are right at their 50-year average. Federal spending as % of GDP is well above its 50-year average. If spending was also at its historical average, deficit/GDP ratio would be 1/3 smaller.
This is what happens when you cut taxes repeatedly for 25 years and pretend that they “pay for themselves.”
New argument against data centers: They make you too rich and make your public amenities too nice.
