EU Graduates Dodge £360m in Student Loan Repayments 43,700 EU graduates earning above the threshold paid nothing last year. They took the degrees and went home. The Student Loans Company relies on them to declare their own earnings, and ministers call themselves "resolute". The arrears stand at £360m. The taxpayer is still waiting. A Telegraph FOI request earlier put the debt of overseas graduates who can repay but don't at £1.3bn, and that covers every country, not only the EU. The SLC was trying to trace 42,000 of them. British graduates repay through payroll. Those abroad are trusted to fill in a form. Education minister Josh MacAlister says the public expects these debts to be paid, "and so do we".
