Li Lu gave a talk in Columbia University this week that almost no one reported. Except a small paper I subscribed and forgot till today - South China Morning Post. He said shares in Chinese companies present better opportunities than anywhere else in the world. He never gives public speeches. No Podcasts or interviews. “If you are rational investors and look at the whole picture, you might take a different perspective,” said Li, who was close to Munger, the late partner of Warren Buffett in Berkshire Hathaway. “In today’s market, you probably find better opportunities than you would find in different times.” “Everybody is competing fearlessly, all believing time is on their side,” Li said.China aimed to achieve semiconductor self-sufficiency, while the US hoped for an AI breakthrough, and other countries had their own calculations, he said.“But it all highlights that peaceful stability is of strategic importance, and the largest countries really do have the responsibility and the desire to keep it that way,” he added. I have stayed away from China for long. But would this be the right time?

"Inflation to the economy is what inflammation is to the human body" @grok what do you think?

"To me, the real winners are the ones who step out of the game entirely, who don’t even play the game, who rise above it. Those are the people who have such internal mental and self-control and self-awareness, they need nothing from anybody else." @naval

@shaneparrish Simply there is no match for the insights you offer via the knowledge project. Thank you so much.

Unfortunately, we are being blocked by certain oligarchs in order to maintain their monopolistic chokehold on the Indian people. You can guess who they are … This is a crime against the people of India!

Episode #432 The Mind of Napoleon: 0:00 — " This book gives you insight into the mind of a man who combined energy of thought and energy of action to an exceptional degree." 0:30 — "Work is my element. I am born and built for work. I have known the limitations of my legs, I have known the limitations of my eyes; I have never been able to know the limitations of my working capacity." 0:52 — "He knows that men have always been the same, that nothing can change their nature. It is from the past that he will draw his lessons in order to shape the present." 1:33 — "All my life I have sacrificed everything: comfort, self-interest, happiness, to my destiny. Destiny must be fulfilled that is my chief doctrine." 2:33 — "A consecutive series of great actions never is the result of chance and luck; it always is a product of planning and genius. 2:40 — "What is luck? The ability to exploit accidents: The vulgar would call this luck, but in fact it is the characteristic of genius." 3:30 — "Hesitation is fatal; once an action is begun, it must be followed through with the utmost exertion of the will." 3:44 — "If I have any ambition, it is so natural to me, so innate, so intimately linked with my existence, that it is like the blood that circulates in my veins, like the air that I breathe." 4:14 — "To have lived without glory, without leaving a trace of one's existence, is to have not lived at all." 6:25 — "Without great men, we have only mediocre men, and if there had never been anything but mediocre men, we would still be half apes." 7:20 — "The great majority of men attend to what is necessary only when they feel a need for it-the precise time when it is too late." 7:30 — "True character always pierces through in moments of crisis. There are sleepers whose awakening is terrifying." 9:11 — "Be successful! I judge men only by the results of their actions." 11:15 — "The truth is that everything around us is miracle." 15:18 — "Men of genius are meteors destined to be consumed in lighting up their century." 16:13 —  "A man must know himself. Until then, all endeavors are in vain and all schemes collapse." 17:53 — "All great events hang by a single thread. The clever man takes advantage of everything, neglects nothing that may give him some added opportunity; the less clever man, by neglecting one thing, sometimes misses everything." 18:12 —  "What I am, I owe to strength of will, character, application, and daring." 19:27 — "Imagination rules the world." 20:58 — " History I conquered rather than studied. That is to say, I wanted from it, and retained of it, only what could add to my ideas. I spurned what was of no use, and I seized upon certain conclusions that pleased me." 26:01 — " It is better to eat than be eaten." 26:08 — "Appetite comes with eating."  27:43 — "It may be possible to arrest the surge of progress or to throttle it, but not to destroy it." 29:01 — " I have read your letter. It is utterly worthless. There are too many words and not enough ideas." 31:08 —  "Without talent, without knowledge, there is no equality but the equality of misery and servitude." 33:46 — Napoleon to someone who hasn't studied history: " Speak as little as possible. Your knowledge is too limited, and your education has been too neglected for you to engage freely in discussions." 36:08 — "The corpse of an enemy always smells sweet.” 36:44 — "If you wage war, do it energetically and with severity." 39:30 — "In war, men are nothing. One man is everything." 40:20 — "Death is nothing, but to live defeated and without glory is to die every day." 46:23 — "Conquest made me what I am. Conquest alone can keep me there." 46:34 — "Power is my mistress. I have worked too hard at her conquest to allow anyone to take her away from me." 47:13 — "My soul is made of marble. Lightning has found no grip on it and had to slide off of it. I have no fear of becoming their victim. They will be biting into granite."

To entrepreneurs who are feeling burned out, this is the question I pose most often: “What can you put in place so that you can go completely off the grid for 4 to 8 weeks?” Two weeks isn’t enough, as you can let fires erupt and then attempt to repair things when you return. Four to eight weeks (or more) doesn’t allow you to be a firefighter. It forces you to put systems and policies in place, ditch ad-hoc email-based triage, empower other people with rules and tools, separate the critical few from the trivial many, and otherwise create a machine that doesn’t require you behind the driver’s wheel 24/7.

Three nights outside and the immune system rolls back 30 years. Zach Bush lays it out for Joe Rogan. Stay outdoors the whole time, never step inside, and the T-cells switch back on while stem cells wake up. He calls modern indoor life a voluntary exile from the environment humans are built for. Rogan keeps it simple: do something that makes the blood move, because that is the natural state. No peer-reviewed study confirms a full 30-year immune reset in three days, though camping does rapidly realign circadian clocks and nature exposure reliably boosts NK-cell activity and lowers stress hormones. Nature still works better than most of what we invent to replace it.

For those of us who beat ourselves up, this book is a godsend. It is not nearly as woo-woo as it might seem. It was recommended to me by a neuroscience PhD who said it changed her life, then by another cynical friend who said the same.   It is one of the most useful books I’ve read. It’s easy to digest, and I suggest one short chapter before bed each night.

There is exactly one health claim permitted for olive oil in Europe, and it comes with a number almost nobody sees. Commission Regulation 432/2012 allows a producer to state that olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress. The condition is specific: the oil must contain at least 5 mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives, principally oleuropein complex and tyrosol, per 20 g of oil. That works out to roughly 250 mg per kilogram. Below that concentration the claim cannot legally be made. Nothing obliges a bottle to declare where it falls. The claim is optional, so an oil that clears the threshold may advertise it, and an oil that does not simply says nothing. Absence of a number is not evidence of a low number. It is absence of information. This matters because the grade on the front does not carry that information either. Extra virgin is defined by free acidity below 0.8 percent, mechanical extraction without heat or solvent, and a sensory panel finding zero defects. Those are meaningful quality criteria and they have nothing to do with phenolic concentration. Two oils can both be legitimately extra virgin and differ several fold in the compounds the health claim is written around. What does reliably destroy them is refining. Oils sold as light or pure are refined, using heat and solvent treatment that strips colour, aroma, bitterness and phenolics together. Light in this context describes flavour and colour, not calories, which are identical to extra virgin. A refined oil is a reasonable neutral cooking fat and it is not what the olive oil literature is about. Phenolic content in unrefined oil varies with olive variety, harvest timing, and how the oil has been stored. Early harvest fruit, picked green, yields the highest concentrations. Content declines with time in the bottle and with exposure to light and heat, which is why dark glass and a harvest date matter more than a best before date. The permitted claim covers protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress, a mechanistic endpoint, not cardiovascular events. And the practical difference between a moderate and a high phenolic oil at real intakes has not been resolved with hard outcomes. The usable rule is short. Refined oil has essentially none of this, and the label word for it is light or pure. Among extra virgin oils, the ones that clear the threshold generally say so, often with a harvest date and a lab figure. And the bitter, peppery sting at the back of the throat is the phenolics themselves, which makes taste a rough but genuine instrument. Commission Regulation (EU) 432/2012

My company Immortals is using "radical" as the conversation entry point because history has shown that major leaps in human health were once viewed as bizarre, unnecessary, or even dangerous. I'm priming culture to catch up, accelerating the timeline for when we value life over all other goals. Encouraging all of us to take a full, unapologetic responsibility for our collective survival. The invitation is to come be radical with us. The images below were posted on Immortals IG.

Next time you think of giving up, remember this photo of Elon in 2008.

The only way to progress in life is to drop your ego, make a plan, work hard, work consistently, and never give up on your dreams. Winning is not an overnight thing. What seems like overnight success is the accumulation of years of dedication and effort! Compound into what already works. Compound in what is proven to work. Compound into those that support you. Compound into your existing community. Because consistency compounds every single time. this is the law of the universe.

Today, @lifebiosciences confirmed the first patient has been dosed with an epigenetic restoration drug candidate. An exciting milestone 🚀 Life Biosciences is the OG cellular rejuvenation using epigenetic restoration to reverse diseases of aging. It was cofounded by @davidasinclair, who serves as Chairman The company’s proprietary Epigenetic Restoration platform utilizes three transcription factors, OCT4, SOX2, and KLF4 (OSK), to restore older and damaged cells to a younger and healthier state. This innovative approach targets a root cause of aging at the epigenetic level, and has the potential to address a wide range of serious age-related diseases The Phase 1 trial will evaluate the safety and tolerability of ER-100, with additional endpoints assessing visual function. ER‑100 is the first clinical candidate from Life Bio’s Epigenetic Restoration platform, which uses controlled expression of three transcription factors, OCT4, SOX2 and KLF4 (OSK) to restore cellular function by resetting the epigenetic code to more youthful patterns of gene expression “This is an important moment for Life Bio and for the field of aging biology,” said David Sinclair, Ph.D., Co‑founder of Life Biosciences and Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. “Our research has suggested that aging is driven in large part by the loss of epigenetic information, not irreversible damage. This clinical study represents the first opportunity to test whether restoring that information can ameliorate human disease.” Beyond ER-100, the company is strategically broadening its therapeutic pipeline to address additional age-related diseases, underscoring the platform’s versatility and transformative potential. “This milestone reflects years of rigorous scientific development and translational research,” said Sharon Rosenzweig‑Lipson, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Life Biosciences. “Our preclinical studies have demonstrated that controlled OSK expression can reset epigenetic patterns associated with healthy cellular function, improve tissue performance, and restore visual function in animal models. Advancing ER‑100 into the clinic is an important step toward translating epigenetic restoration into a new class of medicines for age-related diseases.” Optic neuropathies represent a large unmet medical need. Current treatments primarily address risk factors, such as intraocular pressure in glaucoma, but do not directly target the damage to retinal ganglion cells. As a consequence, the disease often leads to irreversible vision loss despite treatment Vision loss not only directly impacts patients’ lives, but also increases the risk of loss of independence, damaging falls, and depression and dementia due to social isolation, underscoring the need for disease-modifying therapies. Beyond ER‑100, Life Bio is developing applications of its proprietary Epigenetic Restoration platform for multiple indications in a variety of organs, reflecting the broad therapeutic potential of this platform. About Optic Neuropathies Optic neuropathies are a group of disorders characterized by damage to retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), the primary neurons connecting the eye to the brain. Because RGCs do not naturally regenerate, damage results in permanent vision impairment. One such optic neuropathy, open-angle glaucoma (OAG) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease and a leading cause of blindness in older adults While often associated with elevated intraocular pressure, disease progression frequently continues despite treatment, and some patients suffer from OAG despite normal intraocular pressure. Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is the most common acute optic neuropathy in adults over fifty. It involves sudden, painless vision loss due to insufficient blood flow, for which there are currently no approved treatments About ER-100 ER‑100 is an investigational therapy in clinical development for the treatment of optic neuropathies including OAG and NAION. ER‑100 is designed to restore function in retinal ganglion cells using Life Biosciences’ Epigenetic Restoration platform, which utilizes controlled expression of three transcription factors, OCT4, SOX2 and KLF4 (OSK), to reset cellular gene expression patterns and restore cells to a more youthful and functional state. ER‑100 is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial. The Mediterranean diet may be doing something really interesting at the mitochondrial level. People with high Mediterranean diet adherence had significantly higher levels of two mitochondrial-derived microproteins known as Humanin and SHMOOSE. These are emerging molecules involved in cell stress resistance, mitochondrial signaling, and healthy aging. What stood out is that specific Mediterranean diet foods, including olive oil, fish, and legumes were associated with higher microprotein levels. And Humanin was inversely associated with two markers of oxidative stress. We already know the Mediterranean diet supports cardiovascular and metabolic health. This study suggests that some of those benefits may be mediated through mitochondrial microproteins.
