Sorry to read your post. Educated, well informed and experienced as you are, civilised public in India like you to comment with facts and not resort to populism and cheap street politics. Certainly it is the right of every citizen to vote. And that is what ECI is meant for. But at the same time, it is also the duty of ECI to prevent non citizens, dead, duplicate, migrated voters to be a part of the voter lists of India. ECI devised a method SIR to do it by linking each voter to his heredity as reflected in 2002 voter lists. If it couldn’t be done, 11 documents were listed and one of them had to be produced. Simple. The highest court of India endorsed it. This exercise resulted in the deletion of 13 crore voters in 20 states. And lo and behold whole Oppn went up in arms. Why? ( Because their only hope of winning by fake votes too is now gone). Not one of these 13 crore voters has come up in appeal for his/her“ lost” vote. Still to satisfy the Oppn. @ECISVEEP has given one more chance to these deleted voters to come forward and reapply. I call it a master stroke of CEC to call the bluff of Oppn. Yes, that is the Google search figure including 34 Muslim women pilots out of a total of 26000 pilots in India. Means about 7%. Normally nobody would bother but today things unfortunately are different. How to discriminate and screen without offending a person's sensitivities. Muslims themselves should come forward because this is a safety concern and concerns Muslims as well.

@PChidambaram_IN No. On the contrary I see this step of @ECISVEEP as a master stroke. If nobody or very few people reapply that shows the ECI was correct in deleting them and your entire propaganda gets rubbed off. If it does reveal large number left out, good for them.

@ECISVEEP call for deleted voters to apply afresh even after the conclusion of SIR exercise is a masterstroke. Either it shows that thare are hardly any real voters left out to reapply ( and call out Oppn bluff) or genuine leftovers get a chance to be included. Either way it is an innocuous and genuine effort to undertake.

Sad @nytimes I had my date of renewing membership of the paper. I have stopped and discontinued. If you can mislead the public by publishing this 9/11 type of terrorist act as an altercation between two pilots, then it is dangerous to read this paper. It would be another Aljazeera.

INDI alliance is really in soup. With 13 crores fake voters gone and another 2-3 crore getting deleted with completion of SIR, the possibility of a win for oppn candidates anywhere is very slim. They depended on these absent, dead, duplicate voters for their win. They have no other option but to use the SIR exercise to oppose the @BJP4India govt and try for a Nepal-BDesh type mass mobilisation. Will they succeed? Not the least because each of their tactics increases the popularity of BJP, NaMo and Yogi.

The paper has lost its credibility completely now. Its weekly opeds from retired and old journalists with a feudal mindset mostly supporting the Gandhi family, its weired software that never allows its epaper to open in the morning hours so as to increase its print edition sales and most importantly having the lowest circulation. It is likely its sales will reduce further and may ultimately wind up.
