There’s a market for bitcoin-aligned small business owners who need liquidity but would like an alternative to seeing their company gutted by PE. Given the high bankruptcy rates of post-PE business (high leverage), and common complaints by communities (“this veterinarian clinic was awesome until PE took it over”), I think a more wholesome alternative is useful. Companies like Berkshire that buy businesses and let them keep running in the way that originally made them successful is proof of that, if you have a long time horizon. From an investor perspective, I think combining a diverse set of cashflows with bitcoin makes sense. Any debt interest that exists can be kept as a modest percentage of operating cash flows, letting the company short fiat and go long bitcoin with an indefinite time horizon regardless of Bitcoin price (as long as business cashflows are properly maintained). Additionally, it gives options for counter-cyclical moves to lean into what’s cheap. Bitcoin is in a bear market and/or the business acquisition funnel encountered a soft patch? Then lean into buying more bitcoin. Bitcoin just went up 10x and the business acquisition funnel is strong? Then lean into buying more businesses.
